I am trying to get some more information about padajathi varnams. As far as I know, a padajathi varnam is (pada) varnam that has pre-composed jathi segments. A lot people equate it with the Daru varnam.
I am only familiar with one Daru Varnam (mathe in Khamas) and it has swaras, jathis that correspond to the swaras and sahithyam that corresponds to the swaras.
Lakshmanji or others do you have the text/notation for other padajathi varnams. Do they all have sahityam for the swara segments? Any more information available on this form of composition?

Re: Padajathi varnam
So just to clarify:
- Do all Daru Varnams have jathis and sahitya for the mukthayi swaram sections
- Do all Daru Varnams have jathis and sahitya for the chitta swaram sections?
This is something that has always confused me. Muthiah Bhagavathar's 'Mathe' varnam is considered a Daru Varnam, which contains jathis and sahitya for the mukthayi swaram but only jathis for the chitta swarams.
However, Swathi Thirunal's varnam contains sahitya for the mukthayi swaram, and no sahitya for the chitta swarams yet it is classified as a padavarnam, and I have even seen it referred to as a daru varnam.
There is a K N Dhandayuthapani Pillai varnam 'Maa Moham' which has jathis for the mukthayi swaram, but sahitya for the chitta swarams. Is this a padavarnam, or a padajathi varnam?

Re: Padajathi varnam
then this Maa Moham is more like svarajathi (where muktayi is set to jathis and svaras, and chitta svaras have satyam).
don't you think so?

Re: Padajathi varnam
TKG classifies any Varna with Sollukattus anywhere in Varnam as Daru Varnam. They need not be in Mukthayi swara/sahitya. Couple of Daru Varnams have them in Charana Swara/Sahitya.
