Yes, my statement was also in jest and of "Saw and Sawing" of vocalists voice. :)

Suji Ram ji,
I really pity you for the bitter experience you had with some of our vocalist's voices. !!!What to do ? we are destined to bear with and take every thing for granted !

carnaticfan,
Very nice!

CML,
I name you not.

Who goes there?
Hark! Tis a crowd of verse twirlers,
Hie! Take the alternate route!
Prose and drama beckon!
Did the fiddler drop a hint?
Your silence speaks...

Time to start the jam session and I don't mind starting since I am still in great expectations of Vijay's superb start. I dedicate this to KKK (you will know what I mean :) and accordingly
http://www.mediafire.com/?2jxdwxc90xx
which is the rendering of the verse by our great vaggeyakara Kambar (#30) :)
To fit in with the request of the starter of the thread I have accommodated kahowla, naRamaRaTa and certainly boomba ka.
it is your turn :)

arasi, I read your piece and immediately thought, it can be sung as a viruttam, maybe by some vidwan towards the later half of the season...

For example, I was humming it in raga thodi.

First line: n, S, S,,, GRRS,,, ndnp, d,,,, toNDai pESuvadillaiyE!
Second: dd G,,,, R, GG, RRS, nSRSS,,, ndn,, d, OyAda season pin,
Third: pp, d, p,,, m m,p, pmg,,, mnndp d,,, ivargaL pESuvadennavO?
Fourth: p,d, nSR,S, S, S, S, ratnAkaramE AnAlum,
Fifth: S, S, Sndp,,, m dpmgm, toNDai raNAm ARumun,
Sixth: dm,,, md, S,,,,n G,R,S.. rambamAi aRuppadEnO?

bala747,
Great! Can't wait to hear it when the Singapore rasikAs get together and share their fun with us.
As for a viruttam, do you think the vocalists can wing it with a post-season voice? May be not--but it would it be an apt study in Realism...

bombaka .... misraka...
Wonder why the evolution of the full series stopped there ...?

I know some modern day musicians who bring in filmy nuances with squeezed-lip singing , good enough to start a new definition of "ksullaka"
:P
I leave it to the experts to give the exact meaning in sanskrit(?).,I am speaking from the kannada perpective though.

and some some fine singers like our own NSG who will qualify for
samayika - as defined in the wikipedia with the following words.

Samayika, which is a Sanskrit word meaning equanimity and derived from samaya (the soul). The goal of Samayika is to attain equanimity. Samayika is begun by achieving a balance in time. If this current moment is defined as a moving line between the past and the future, Samayika happens by being fully aware, alert and conscious in that moving time line when one experiences Atma, one's true nature, common to all life.

very nice coolkarni! That gives lots of ideas for a new vocabulary that our 'reviewers' can use in the future. E.G.,
hummaka like the famous humming that CVB used to entertain on occasions..
hissaka what A Sayeeram employs in her OVK Thillana...
sqealaka copyright of Nityasree when she soars in the stratosphere
kuyilaka the one and only MLV..
and many more ......

savistAra--a subtle way to suggest that the tani folks are playing beyond the given (reasonable) time . I have seen the same expression on the vocalist's face as with a child which sees the merry go round (whatever you call that circular thing in the park ) go round one more time before it gets on it. Another Avartam, another and so
on.
Oops! We were discussing voice structure! Well, the percussion section needn' t feel left out!

samskr60 wrote:The purpose is very simple: my friends asked me to find a couple of good vocalists in Tamil Nadu for recording a CD. That's all. So I need someone with a voice that is of one of the 8 varieties of the triple misraka. Simple.
simple?

attempts to categorise and rank voices according to these pedantic criteria are in my lay humble opinion futile. listener response to the human voice is a personal issue. for instance most people either are crazy about nityashri vocalism or berate for shrieking. some people cannot tolerate any voice above contralto. there are others cannot stand anything below baritone. even the great mdr is disliked by some for this reason.
