In the website a man in Bali is shown playing Veena; a close up of the Veena is also given. Can someone throw more light on Veena playing in other countries?

That's not a veena in the picture. It's a sitar. Huge difference.

And the man playing it is not native Balinese but some westerner. The sitar is a fashionable "new age"/hippie instrument and Bali readily fits in that picture too.

This whole thing has nothing to do with the cultural history of the place. If I try hard I am sure I can find pictures of tabla players in the Mojave desest of California :-).

Uday,
Thanks for the information. I was searching for something else; I stumbled across this page.

Balinese do not have Veenas or Sitars. Their form of art is very different. Ther eis the Gamelan (orchestral arrangement of xylophone like instruments and drums like out thavil) and various dance and story telling forms.

(I was in bali in 2006)
