Report about Sri Papanasam Kunjumani Bhagavather's Concert at Sri SubramanyamÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s house on 04.07.2009

Sri Rahul - Violin.
Sri Erode Nagarajan - Mridangam.
Sri --------------------- - Mridangam.

Sri Erode Nagarajan may kindly give the name of the vocal support artist and that of the second Mridangist.

Since Sri Rajesh left after the concert of Sri Kurudi Venkannachar, I have recorded the programme of Sri Kunjumani Bhagavather and I am giving the list of songs sung in the concert.

The concert was very informative about Oothukadu Venkatakavi and he has sung some krithis which were not sung in the regular concerts of many artists. Including the swaras and jathis in composing the songs by the Kavi were highlighted by the artist.

Sri Rahul had given a wonderful accompaniment in Violin for Sri Venkannachar and Sri Kunjumani Bhagavather.

Sri Erode Nagarajan provided an enthusiastic Mridangam accompaniment in both the concerts.

Rare songs - I do hope the concert is uploaded. 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 18 are new to me.

Isn't #2 also a composition of OVK?

#16 - isn't it udaja gOpa sundara?

#17 is the mAdhava pancakam of Sri OVK...

Most of the other krithis are OVK are new to me, LJi needs to help

3. Padmavathi Ramanam-Purvikalyani is about jayadeva, the composer of the gItagovindam, but is by OVK again..

Looks like it was a wonderful concert, with several choice pieces of the great vAggeyakAra, in both sanskrit and tamizh..

It was a great experience listening to the doyen who was had just warmed up after about an hour and was in a mood to sing for atleast another hour or two of rare OVK kritis.
A resonant voice, feel for the lyrics and a perfect laya sense marked the concert.
The full concert will be uploaded for the benefit of members.
If we are lucky we will have him again to continue where he left.
