I would like to start a topic for posting your most favourite Instrumental renditions in Carnatic Music.
All instruments including percussion are welcome.
Some songs seem more alive on certain instruments, for example, IMO, Endaro Mahanubavulu is best suited for the Veena.
Thanks
Vallaki

I would like to hear the following songs only when played in an instrument, preferably, a violin...
Entha Muddo - Bindumalini
Maravai - Nasikabhushani
Brova - Bahudhari
Ananda - Amrithavarshini
Nadaloludai - K. Vasantham
Of course, there are many more...in ragams, I like, Bantuvarali, Poorvikalyani, Shanmugapriya, Simhendramadyamam, Sindubairavi ....yes, the list can be endless...

Srisubramanyaya Namasthe replete with Ragamalika tanam by S Balachander. I suffered in agony after having misplaced the tanam part of it and was overjoyed when I found it again.
Vidajalathura by SB
Nadopasana by Mali
Heard a moving Bhairavi by D.Balakrishna when he had come here (San Jose) 3 years back.

Generally I have a heavy bias towards vocal and so I do not listen to a lot of plain instrumental. But amongst those I do hear:
SrI nArada and nAdalOluDai on flute by KSG (these are permanently on iPod). I also immensely enjoyed an RTP in kIravAni by Jayanthi Kumaresh on the veena that is/was on YouTube.

Sunayana...Manavyala...by MSG is probably the best. But, ardhanareeswaram..some how, is not true to the traditional way the song is sung...perhaps some liberties have been taken considering the instrument ? I would value other opinions on this.

I quite haven't heard the Parur Sundaram Iyer version of Ardhanareeshwaram. But, have heard it quite a few times by MSG/MSA. The Patantharam seems to be quite similar to the other schools. Also, I am told that their version for this dates back to a long time. Liberties with instrument - MSG does that in most solo renditions

Chitti Babu has rendered a superb Kharaharapriya (1975 concert). It is Chakkani Raja, but the alapana is so sweet and mellifluous that I have been tripping on it for a week.vallaki wrote:This morning, in my drive, it was Chitti Babu's Jagadhodharana... No one can play that song on an instrument like him, even though U.Srinivas comes a close second ...

I know he plays the veena like it is a guitar at a rock concert,
But I never liked this song till played by him.
Rajesh Vaidhya playing Chandrasekaraa in Sindhu Bairavi
That is so powerful i feel like my soul can't help but move uncontrollably to the rhythm and the music.
I am not even a huge fan of fusion. but this one of the exceptions.

I Second this , but would add that Rahesh Vaidhya is a brilliant veena player(He 'Rocks' ), his sindhubhairavi is awesome, especially this song. Yes, it is on youtube also.
Unfortunately, there seems to be a bias against him .He seems to appeal more to the younger generation, and he is no less a brilliant vainika than any from the older generation.
I recommend every veena rasika to watch that video . That is from his voyage album. In fact that whole album is very nice and lively.
The whole team are just purely enjoying very much. I love it when he does the (PDS NDN DPD PMGM PP MDP) in the chandrashekara song.
Also , there is a mindblowing simhendramadhyamam piece by him from his Toronto concert. The veena is very alive and singing and rocking and Happy in his hands.
Additionally, I would like to mention that , the same song , Chandrashekara , by Mandolin U.Srinivas is also very nice.
