Still a goofy grid (I can perhaps make it more balanced with more clues, but I am rationing them at this point :)) - this one may a little bit more indirect ones. Hopefully no errors in clue construction and no typos!

Enjoy!

Yeah I managed to have a go. Having some trouble with 3 down though - a couple of ragams broadly fit the clue but not quite....will wait for Monday - BTW that's way too long - maybe we can make it Friday?

I see that the 8 down has been changed by Arun....wondering why nothing was fitting there

Sorry. As soon as I published, I had realized a couple of typos and had posted a new image. But I think I forget to fix all the links, also get rid of the old image etc. So for a while you had no image on the blog post page, which then linked to the "old" one etc. But this has been fixed for a while now (may 15-20 hrs). Sorry for the confusion folks!

Arun,

Kudos to you for taking so much effort! I think your crosswords are and will surely continue to be among the most awaited items on the forum every week.

Vijay,
I thought the 3 down were a composer duo's signature and not a ragam! Anyway time shall tell.

Aha so sign refers to mudra - quite plausible...I am not even aware of any composer duo so I think I will let it pass!

Thanks guys. So you want the solution today (it is friday morning for me already)? I can put it up in a couple of hours - but the next puzzle would have to wait for another 1/2 to full day as it takes a bit of prep.

vijay/others: balsree and vidya are right. And additional clue: 3 down is "sort of" related to 11A also :)

Thanks for the puzzle , unfortunately I was not able to take a print out at work, I dont have a printer at home, without print out I was only able to solve just 5. Looks like before I work out on Monday /Tuesday with a print out, I guess it is too late for others as you need to give the answers.

Suji,
Attagirl
Arun,
Marvelous!
I guessed only a few--which makes me bottom of the class. 1; I couldn't print it out. 2: cryptic clues make it difficult for me. 3: I do not know that much about music.
Anyway, the way you create the clues fascinates me. While I do well with my crosswords, I have problems with Indian ones which are mostly cryptic. You have a fan in me because I am appreciative when I come across an original clue in any crossword puzzle. Yours are all original!

Very nice. I have written Ramakriya instead of Ramamatya. Don't know why.... Still it worked. Real hard work from your end. Waiting for the next...

9D-SEMMANGUDI?
Arun has explained it.

3D was elusive till the end. Garbha as equivalent of pregnant escaped me and did not know Garbhapuri-Vasa was a duo! Anyway, looking forward to more Arun!

thanks arasi, punarvasi and vganesh.

balsree: bilahari is "almost" a fit as its letters do contain an anagram for Bihar. But the clue indicates (cryptically of course ;) ) that the answer is an anagram of Bihar via, which would fit bhairavi but not bilahari.

As Narayan indicated earlier, having only part of the answer being anagram of something in a clue is not done. As one can imagine, that can be quite confusing (unless more explicitly indicated in the clue itself).

Also, Semmangudi is anagram of amusing Med - the word "about" is frequently used in cryptic crosswords (like in Hindu) to indicate anagram.

I too missed garbhapuri. Who/when/where was garbhapuri or garbhapuri vasa ? A google search does not yield anything.

OK..Arun, I have to publicly confess that these crosswords are NOT for me. Reading the solutions is hard enough! :P BUT, a great job nevertheless!

Thanks arun for the clarifications. I believe Med is a slang and not a common word. When is the next ? Looking forward to that !

garbhapuri was the first one I solved! Being a woman may have something to do with it. Curious to know if it was just as easy for the other three women...

info on garbhapuri:http://www.karnatik.com/co1023.shtml

As I mention in the solutions page, the Sri raga varnam is a composition by them and the mudra occurs in the anupallavi. The mudra I guess is variably garbhapurisa, garbhapurivasa, garbhapurinivasa (as in the sriraga varnam).

I too got that first. But was also looking into ragas ending in "vati" but the clue was about a sign... so settled for garbhapuri

Looking forward for more ..
reminds me of the days I spent with The Hindu Crosswords during summer vacation and driving my mom crazy..

ravi - I am surprised that you find it that hard! It is mainly acrobatics with letters with some knowledge of CM. I am sure you can handle both with ease :)
