Here is a write up on raga Andhali by Raviraj with two clips one of Smt.T.Brinda and another of Smt.Kalpakam Swaminathan. Based on this I have one question:

Has anyone learnt/heard of any other versions of the Tyagaraja composition(disputed as it may be) in Andhali referred to here and also help identify the singer? I certainly do not believe that is BMK(ie the BMK) .

Interesting that many of the differences among rAga interpretations center on the gAndhAra - AndhALi, s'ahAna, mAnjI...

Overall, phrases such as m g m r or p , m g m r (found in the sancari given by Subbarama Dikshitar in the SSP) occur at much lower frequency compared to r g m r s (described as a ranjaka prayoga in the SSP and identical to that found in ragas like purnachandrika or janaranjani). One might presume that, for the most part, the antara gandhara should be rendered flat. The notation given for the sancari indicates a single instance wherein the gandhara is intoned with a nokku. If, however, the m g m r or p , m g m r phrases are rendered in vilamba kala, they can also suggest sahana. A detailed description of how the m g m r s phrase in Sahana incorporates the deergha gandhara and is intoned with the vali gamaka is to be found in the SSP - incidentally, Sahana is classified as a janya of Sriraga and not Harikedaragoula. Given the evolutionary trajectory of Andhali one might reconsider the argument for deergha gandhara and ascertain whether Sri. Natarajasundaram Pillai’s version refers to intonation of the gandhara in Andhali by means of kampita or vali.

Manchala jagannAtha rao in the beginning of his notations for the score or so songs of annamAchArya in andhAli, says andhAli = AndhALI = AndhOLi = andhOlikA; and has tuned them all in the prevalent version of AndOlika

To me, AndOlika appears closer to suruTi (and sOrat of HM) than to AndhAli.

That guruguha article is a very exhaustive writeup on this nearly extinct raga. Ever since the scalar ragas started getting popular, we've forgotten most of the phrase based ragas.

T Brinda's version using G2 is here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnlPt8uQVZo

Kalpagam mami's version with G3 : http://guruguha.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... nathan.mp3

IIRC, whether Thyagaraja's abhimAnamu lEdEmi is actually his composition is a matter of debate. I also think the dance oriented rendition on Sangeethapriya's tribute pages is by P Unnikrishnan. Certainly not BMK.

Anyway this was all I could find of it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6r0zhjV7nk
