There is a ragam called surati.Is this the same as suruti?
Can someone clarify?

Yes, it is. The correct name is suraTi. Dikshitar has incorporated it this way in this krithi 'shri vAnCanAtham' - 'bhUsuraTikAdIDitabhAvam'

What is the melakartha ragam for which surati is a janyam?

Though there are several kritis in surutti(surati), being a film buff ,especially film songs of yore, the surutti line that comes to my mind is by NCVASANTAKOKILAM. from the film Sivakavi, a ragamalika duet by her and MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar.. the song starts in Raaga Vasantha in the majestic incomparable voice of MKT. The song is vasanta ruthu mana mohaname, a garland of raagas, the line I mentioned earlier by NCV is 'surutti konarndu koduthar pola sollukku panjamillai'. I forget the other raagas.. i remember kambodi only .Arasi or cm lover , help me GOBILALITHA

The ragas are vasantA, kuntalavarALi, yadukulakAmbhOji and suraTi.
By the way the femal voice is that of S.Jeyalakshmi.
