Please suggest what is the ideal sruti to be tuned for the group singing of pancharatna kritis. Combination of Female vocals, flute and mridangam. As we find difficult to co-ordinate multiple vocalists to adjust to the sruti.

Please post your suggestions.

Generally it is 1 or C. But if u have lot of females then the pitch generally chosen is 5 or G.

Flute and veena adjust themselves to these two pitches and play for the Pancharatna.

Another question: If the singer's sruti is 6.5 can she be able to sing at 5?.

really there is no "ideal" sruthi... you just have to find the "average" of all the voices in the group and work from there.

I agree with the former message. As males usually sing around C# and females around G# , Bflat will be in the middle, so that
when all sing together it will be only a bit lowish for the males and a bit highish for the females. Anyway, that's what my former teacher used to do in a mixed group and it worked,

You probably meant to say the other way, didn't you?

If the men sing at C and the women at G (as they usually do) maintaining overall G will be fine since C will go with G due to the sa-pa concordance. Those who have other shrutis should try to lower or enhance their shruti to match with C or G...

CML, C-G Combination would not work, though they are concordant. It has to be the same sruthi but the octave can be different.

No, the tanpura was tuned down to B-flat which is below average Sa for males and above the average Sa for females, so I meant what I wrote.
