Hello Music lovers,
The International Foundation for Carnatic Music (http://ifcm. ravikiranmusic. com) will conduct a first of its kind Saptaratna Festival on Saturday, 30th August at Srinivasa Shastri Hall, Mylapore. This festival features seven concerts by eminent and talented performers, who will present several rare and popular masterpieces of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi.
The highlight of the festival is that each concert will feature one Saptaratna krti of Venkata Kavi, now widely acknowledged to have pioneered compositions with this structure. The Saptaratna krtis comprise a pallavi, anupallavi and multiple charanams that can be rendered as swaras and lyrics, a form that was probably not much in vogue before his times. Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi used the ragas Nattai, Gowla, Kalyani, Keeravani, Todi, Paras and Madhyamavati for his pieces.
This festival will be flagged off with a concert featuring the first Saptaratna in Nattai, Bhajanamrta paramananda by Neyveli Santanagopalan and capped off with a performance featuring the final Saptaratna in Madhyamavati, Sundara Nandakumara, by Trichur V Ramachandran. The other concerts by Hyderabad Sisters (Lalita and Haripriya), Master Ashwin Sridhar Ensemble with Chaitanya Kumar (flute) & Bhargavi (chitravina) , Saketaraman, Bangalore M S Sheela and Master Balamuralikrishna, will feature the rest of the Saptaratnas in that order.
The festival commences at 9 am.
The event is free and all are welcome.
