Yesterday afternoon there was a show in Vijay TV on voice culture.
The teacher was , I think, Mangadu Shubha
It was very informative

You must mean Malgudi Shubha, although I can understand the source of the confusion :-)

She was teaching how to throw the voice from nabhi. A group of students repeated a particular musical (possibly jazz) and she was correcting each one by pointing out how the throat should not be involved and the source of the sound sound should be near the stomach. She had a wonderful voice. Many students picked up the trick.

TVG sir is an authority on voice culture and has even published a book on the same, detailing good habits, posture, diet, breathing exercises and techniques to help improve the voice.

Ultimately tho, (this is just my opinion), what you are able to do with your voice is much more important than how good your voice is. Everyone has some limitations, learning to work around or adapt to them is what makes you great.

There was good article in the Hindu about a voice trainer. You may contact him.

I have always wondered how this voice production/projection is actually done. I have only read about it in books and on the web but never seen a live demonstration, so I will keep a look out on youtube to see if someone posts such a video. Meanwhile I did come across some Malgudi Shubha videos on youtube and she does sing across a wide range and seemingly effortlessly, which is the critical first step to good singing in my book. But I am unable to grasp _how_ she is singing rather than what she is singing. If you come across other singers or demonstrations please post them on this forum.

Thanks
Then Paanan

Take Lung test and check the efficiency %. Most of the singers will be 1.3 to 1.5 times higher than normal person. This may a starting point to try and improve the lung capacity as to how long one can prolong the breath.
