Prasanna Vidya Ganapathi Sabha in Mysore, will conduct a course by Chitravina Ravikiran (http://www.ravikiranmusic.com) on the Saptaratna krtis of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi on June 6th (evening) and 7th (morning).
The Saptaratna krtis of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi are among the best masterpieces in Carnatic music. They are now considered to be forerunners to other similar sets. Musically, the structure is similar to the Pancharatna krtis of Tyagaraja - pallavi, anupallavi and a series of charanams that can be rendered as swara and sahityam. The ragas and talas used by Venkata Kavi are Nattai, Gowla, Kalyani, Keeravani, Todi, Paras and Madhyamavati. All krtis are in high calibre Sanskrit except the one in Paras, which is in Tamil.
