How thrilling it is to imagine what a meeting between Thyagaraja and Dikshitar must have been like!
Here is an article which discusses this:

Sriram of sangeetham had once written an evocative but largely imaginary piece on the supposed meeting. VV Srivatsa's claims based on iconography seem quite convincing to me. It is not far fetched to imagine that a meeting took place given that Deekshitar clearly visited Thiruvaiyyaru. Shyama Shastri's association with Thyagaraja is also well known - Shastri's son is said to have been Thyagaraja's student...about the relationship between Shyama Shastri and Deekshitar, I have heard/read almost nothing

SD mentions in SSP about the meeting of these two Stalwarts. In that meeting MD emphasized the importance of rAga mudra in the compositions.
While talking about sindhu rAmakriya, SD states that St.Thyagaraja, who had the association with sonTi Ventaramana, a disciple of Venkatamkhi's grand son would not have changed the names of Venkatamakhi.
Looks like the change of the rAga names ( other than mELa kartaa) are attibuted to the SingarAcAaryalu , the author of the vasantA varNam.

Mr Balusatva has written as
We have also herard that Sabapathikku -Abohi was composed by GKB inspired by Thyagaraja composition in that Raga.Composition?
About 20 years ago I heard a lecture 'One day in the life of TyAgarAjA' by late Dr. S.Ramanathan. What I recollect is as below.
One day T was singing his new composition 'rAma nI samAnamevaru' and doing pUjA. At that time GOpAlakrishNa bhArati entered his house and took his seat at the rear end of the hall. After the pUjA they got introduced to each other. After exchange of pleasantries T requested GKB to sing his AbhOgi rAgA kriti which he (T) had heard through one shshyA of GKB. GKB burst out in sabhApatikku vEru daivam. One of T's shishyAs had a slight frown on his face. Immediately after this song T smiled at this shisyA and stareted his extempore song 'evarani nirNayiJcirirA'. I am reproducing the gist as given by Sri.V.Govindan.
Gist
What did the most eminent of humans determine as to who You are? And, how did they worship You? As Lord ziva or as Lord viSNu or as brahmA or as the Supreme Lord?
For the ziva mantra (OM namazzivAya), ‘ma’ is the soul; for the viSNu mantra (OM NamO nArAyanAya), ‘rA’ is the soul; I salute these great personages who understand this detail. O Lord having the quality of munificience praised by this tyAgarAja.
Immediately that sishyA requested both T and GKB to excuse him for having thought for a moment whether they were having a dispute about whether zivA is great or vishNu is great.
Dr S.R explained these further aspects. Original song is in karaharapriyA, AbhOgi is a janya of this rAgA. The new song is in a rAga which was created at on the spot by T as a janyA of karaharapriya, thereby indirectly implying tghat all gods are forms of para-brahmamu.
SishyAs of Dr.S.R can check up this and correct.
It is unfortunate that we do not have the tradition of keeping proper records of event with the result that myth and fact get mixed up
