NEW YORK – A grand concert featuring the celebrated Carnatic musician T.V. Gopalakrishnan will be presented by the Arch and Jiva Performing Arts on Friday June 20, 2008 at the Arch Space in Manhattan.

TV Gopalakrishnan is hailed as one of the leading Carnatic musicians today. He is truly a total musician, having excelled not only in vocal music and mridangam, but also instruments such as the violin, and saxophone. TVG has performed in thousands of concerts in a career spanning over 60 years and is a composer par excellence.

He takes credit for being the first vocalist who performed with equal felicity both in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music. TVG has been honored with a number of titles and awards from India and abroad and has brought a rich crop of disciples to prominence such as K.J.Yesudas, Illayaraja, A.R. Rahman, Rajkumar Bharati, etc. besides a number of others from abroad. TVG runs a music Academy in Chernnai, India, the Academy of Indian Music and Arts- Vidyaa Peetam.

He will be accompanied by Arun Ramaurthy on violin. Arun is a young up and coming violinist who has trained originally with the esteemed A. Ananthakrishnan. Later Arun got the good fortune to from the celebrated violinist brothers, Mysore Nagaraj and Mysore Manjunath. A.R. Balaskandan will accompany on the mridangam. Balaskandan is a versatile mridangist as well as violinist who hails from the renowned Karaikudi R. Mani style of playing.
