Is there a list of upcoming lec-dems anywhere? The lists (schedules) I saw seem to focus mainly on kutcheris (understandably) - or did I miss them?

Thanks
Arun

You can search for "Lec Dem" in http://ramsabode.wordpress.com/concerts-in-chennai/

Thanks to Sathej for providing the list of Music Academy lec dems.

Thanks Ram. That is quite a dedicated effort on your part to maintain the concert schedules. It is quite mind boggling that there are so many concerts every day, many starting at 7 A.M.!! I hope the audience participation is decent for most of these concerts.

18th Dec 2007 (Tuesday)
10:30 AM – N. Ramani (Lec Dem – Techniques for playing flute in Carnatic Music) @ The Indian Fine Arts Society, Balamandir German Hall, Prakasam Street, T. Nagar

I am very interested in what Shri. Ramani says in this Lec Dem. If video/audio is available, it will be that much more useful. Hope one of our members attend this and report back. Thanks.

Yeah Bharath, yours too - IITM belongs to you as much as anyone else....and Sriram is bang on - 6 "naive undergrads" to be precise...or not so naive considering that at least one of them was spotted with a GRE prep book!

What a time to be away from Chennai...the call of duty (and lucre) can bend wills (even old ones)...Anyways hope to catch up by this weekend. Meanwhile if your ears are burning and you're choking on your idlis at arusuvai be assured that it might very well be on account of some very jealous thought waves floating towards
ye across continents...

Bharath,

I was going to warn you not to go near Vijay lest he recruits you ;) and just then I got an sms from Vijay that you are not among the "lucky" six. You narrowly missed getting cheated into a consulting career :)

I and Vijay were there for Vijay Siva's concert. NSG at KGS is tempting ...I might just come for the first half but most likely it will be a rest day today.

Ha-Ha. Wrong on both counts :)

I was there for NSG. I really loved the concert! Giripai as main and an RTP in kannada (catusra jhampa), - so two of my favorite ragas taken up elaborately (first time kannada RTP for me and I am sure not many have heard it either). He also did elaborations on aparAdamula (latAngi) and dEvadEva kalayAmbikE (mmg). Lot of bhava (as expected) in the renditions. He shined in that department also in the tukkadas (irakkam varAmal - behAg, and kAkkaic ciRaginilE - brindavani/brindavana-sAranga)

I will be at Sanjay (BGS) today. Assuming I dont sweat like a pig in the morning (actually weather is like heaven - compared to the frigid US midwest I left), I should be wearing a black(ish) shirt and blue pants,a short haircut which clearly exposes by greyish (sob!) sides. I should be with my mom.

I think of lot of rasikas will be headed for Sanjay at BGS today and I am no exception - in fact this would be my first Sanjay concert this season and that's always something to look forward to. Be warned though - they have jacked up the tickets to 100 for the balcony (very few seats - I am sure they would be sold out by now) and 200 for stalls...lemon sevai is recommended in case you have some time to kill before the concert (or during certain parts thereof!)....coffee is better at MFAC nearby...

Arun - then I will look out for a dashing young man in blue jeans and a black sleeveless vest, casually mumbling a sruthi bedham

I would like to wait for another venue to hear Sanjay. Today, I'm definitely off to Chettinad Vidyashram. Sowmya's concerts have been the best year after year in the Jaya TV series... well researched and eloquent. I'm sure today won't be an exception with the Nandanar theme. Waiting for some lovely GKB melodies with accompanying insights from Sowmya. Anyone else planning to be there?

Given that your hero is scheduled to perform before Nedunuri Garu ascends the stage, you are advised to get your tickets well in advance. I think they should be selling tickets from 10 AM onwards with a break for lunch at about 1/1.30....

Hope to see many rasikas around and if there are enough we can congregate over a cuppa at Arusuvai's and practise some headbaging for Nedunuri Garu's korvais...pity he can't leap into the crowd at this age!

Seems Nedunuri's concert is free and y2k programmer's speech is invitation only! I will stop by around 6 and survey..If there ain't any room, I'll opt for TNS's korvais.

ragam-talam - If you want to be in the front rows of a big sabha like Academy or KGS, you might have to put off your iPod purchases for the new year. Chairs at the back are easy on the wallet (about Rs 100) but violate all the laws of ergonomics. Take your pick!

KGS is actually a little better for the backbenchers than Academy...the balcony seats there are just no good...Arun we can catch up at the Academy....
