I amy be excused if I am talking nonsense and out of tune with latest realities I have an impression that the music world has totally forgotten this duoand failed to give them proper recognition. Her Dinamani vamsa in harikamboji is nabootho na bhavishyathi.

I agree. I was floored by an astounding amruthavarshini and have been searching for more from this duo

I think they've retired. Remember reading that the Music Academy honored them a few years ago. Their music is a beautiful breeze as the tracks posted by Cool Sir(thank you!!!:-)) would prove. I think they were trained by TR Balu (disciple of GNB) and they have taught the now performing artistes duo, the Priya Sisters.

The best recognition to deserving "retired maestros" of such calibre is to invite hem to inaugurate a music festival preside over some music functions present an award or give a title or distribute a prize so that they are in the midst of their field of excellence instead of being confined to Oblivion

A year before Harisankar's passing away (roughly) one of my friends was pleasantly surprised to see Harisankar next to him on a flight to Kolkatta.
He was obviously sick and my friend enquired :
"Why are you taking this trip then ? I think you need some attention"

and My friend says he cannot forget the maestro' reply , to this day.

" I am going there because so many people who love me have called me .I cannot disappoint them , can I ? And.........
In this business it does not take long for people to forget you , does it?
Just a word that I am incapable of performing and the ground will start shifting...'

And we are speaking of retirement here.
Somu's Widow bursting into tears , when I went to meet her on behalf of raju asokan is still fresh in my memory.
Clutching the 10 tapes of Somu's Music that I had taken along , she wailed
"And I had thought that the world had forgotten my husband after he passed away. Not one soul has ever entered my home -organisers, fans , officials -My home which was like a Chattiram as long as he lived"
And you little kid, you say he is still alive with your group."

I agree with Ponbhairavi that we have to do something about this.
Very Very thoughtful indeed.
How about calling them as guests for our concerts ?
Old age requires very little.
But it requires that Little very badly.
My Dads final words (of advice) to me,to take good care of my Mother , for the rest of her Life.
My experience with Kalpagam Mami will come up on the relevant thread in General section.
on a similar subject.

I totally agree with the views expressed by Ponbhairavi regarding Radha and Jayalakshmi. In 50s, they are most sought musicians by almost all the Sabhas. If I am correct-they are direct disciples of GNB. I had the opportunity of meeting them in the Year 1997 in my office( Sundaram Finance). As everyone in this column agrees, the sabhas should honour them by inviting them for inaugurations or presiding some functions. They deserve every respect from the Sabhas and the rasikas.
