A unique opportunity to learn the incredible
Saptaratna Krtis of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi
A thematic workshop conducted by Chitravina N Ravikiran
The course: The Saptaratnas of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi are among the best masterpieces in Carnatic music. They are now considered to be the first of their kind songs and are similar in structure to krtis like the Pancharatnas of Tyagaraja (with Pallavi, anupallavi, and a series of charanams that can be rendered as swaras and sahityas). The ragas used by Venkata Kavi are: Nattai, Gowla, Kalyani, Keeravani, Todi, Paras and Shri. Eminently suited for goshti ganam (group rendition) as well as solo renditions, the krtis are all in Sanskrit except Paras, which is in Tamil.
