Janya of kharaharapriyA: SRGMPDNS - SNPMGRS

amba paradEvatE of krishNaswAmi ayyA is one of the best known krithis in this rAgA.

I believe MD also composed in this raga? How different Amba Paradevate is from the feel of Kharaharapriya! The raga bhavam gets submerged in that krithi, since it is a fast one (although it is still very enjoyable)

A completely different color to rudrapriyA can be discerned in dikshitar's 'shri tyAgarAjasya'. [Link to a rendition by Vidushi Smt. Neela Ramgopal: http://www.sangeethamshare.org/sunil/gu ... agopal.mp3]. It's set in vilamba kAlA and is a more melodic and reposeful approach than the electrifying amba paradEvatE. I still have wonderful memories of my Guru, a disciple of the Alathur Brothers, sing swarams with razor sharp tIrmAnams at the eDuppus to 'amba paradEvate', 'paradEvatE' and 'dEvatE'. A classic and challenging krithi.
