Hello all,
Am looking to buy a violin for playing for carnatic concerts (solo and accompaniment). But I am not based in India.
Not looking for beginners violin or intermediate level violin - but need concert solo level violin
Living in western countries - which violin brands/model are good and can be used for carnatic.
Is there any difference/consideration when buying a violin like Gliga or Stentor or Suzuki or Otto Jos Klier or any other such popular foreign western violin brands ? Can they be used for carnatic music as well? At present my situation is that I need to buy in my resident foreign country as I cannot have it brought/shipped from India.
Please help anyone who has knowledge about this - am having a budget of US$1000 to maybe a bit more.

Re: Violin purchase outside India
Which country are you in or would be purchasing the instrument from?
In Europe and US, the concert level violin seen from a western music performer perspective would be in tens of thousands of USD.
You can get good violins in the 1000 to 2000 USD range that will be pretty good for carnatic music,
Rather than look at brands, you should go to a violin shop and check out the violins in the range you can afford; you have to play them and get a feel for how they sound and then decide.
And do remember that the violins will be tuned GDAE meaning considered as tuned for a high pitch A; and when you retune the violin for carnatic music typically at a much lower pitch the sound quality will change.
