Hi, could anyone please help with providing the lyrics + associated translation/meaning for this kauthuvam in Karnaranjani Raga and Adi tala?
It is a composition of Madurai R. Muralidharan from "Natya Dwani: Nayaka" series, and I believe it is also called Amma Kauthuvam? The youtube link is given below.
Just out of interest, I also would like to know how popular it is in terms of how often it is performed and if there are any possible reasons for that.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you and no rush
Thank you so much! I listened to the song again and compared it to your lyrics. I noticed some differences (I have very limited knowledge of Tamil so please excuse any mistakes) :
1) "manadil" I heard as "manadal".
2) "pAdangaL" I heard as "pAsangaL".
3) "varamum un aruL" I heard as "varamum ni agam".
I would much appreciate some clarification or meaning on these please
Out of mere coincidence or whatever i had listened to this recently when i was thinking of compositions on Parenthood as there was a topic in this forum in General discussions recently.
This is a Natya salutation piece that is usually performed in the beginning of a Bharathanatyam event which has a series of performances typically called as Margam AFASIK. Usually it is also normal to invoke some deity like Mother Goddess Kali etc
This one is on Mother or rather in praise of Motherhood. On the popularity i am not sure/knowledgeable to answer, however i liked it.
Here are the lyrics for the lines rendered in it and associated meanings IMHO. Please bear with me for the way i spell out tamil words as found suitable closer to actual pronunciation/(i dont know usual conventions so excuse me)
Meaning:
Mother ! I pay my first respect/salutation to U with my 2 folded hands
You are the one who gave me this boon of getting born into this World or (coming to life in this earth).
Meaning:
You would have forgotten to eat for yourself but never forgot to give me food
You would have forgotten to sleep but never forgot to show your mercy from heart
You would have forgotten yourself but never forgot to embrace/hug me
you would have forgotten the land but never forgot this son/daughter.
Meaning:
you carried the living womb happily for 10months in your pearl like decorated belly
In all these known days and nights with true love you carried this son/daughter.
Meaning:
You had sleepless days & nights
You had given food with affection and sweetness
You troubled/sacrificed your body to go out of shape
You had brought me up to the admiration of this world/people.
Meaning:
If there's a God visible to our eyes in this world then it would be Mother.
If every human who would one day cease to exist forget this fact then he/she would only be an animal.
ArulPozhinthidum ArulVaramum Nee
AgamNirayum Amma Amma Amma
Meaning:
You are the precious boon that showers blessings
You fill up my heart Oh Mother Oh Mother.
