I was reading Krishna Sehgal's book on Bharatanatyam, and she mentions that several padhams and padha varNams are composed around the following construct:
While Himavan is delighted with the prospect of Shiva as his son-in-law, Mena is aghast at his uncouth and 'uncivilized' appearance, abode, and habits, and makes fun of him, while Parvati defends her choice!
I have to confess that I did not know this aspect of the myth. I thought that when Sati was reborn as Parvati, she was born into a family (unlike her previous one) where everyone was appropriately respectful of Shiva: or was it that only the man's opinion mattered (i.e. the difference between Daksha and Himavan)?
Lji/Kulkarni Sa'ab: do you have any such compositions?
Meena: are you aware of these, or where I might find them?
Thanks.
