As a part of the Panniru Tirumurai Festival organised by the Krishna Gana sabha, Suryaprakash presented a 90 minutes concert- from 6.PM to 7.30 PM under the title Panniru tirumurai and tamil songs. The concert stood out for the devotional, classical content and monodharmam elements and the house full audience enjoyed every minute of the concert.

Suryaprakash commenced the concert with the Tiruvarutpa of Vallalar in the ragam Bahudari. This song came in a tamil film Disai mariya paravaikal sung by Dr. Balamuralikrishna and this song has been rendered by M.S.Subblakshmi in the ragam Panthuvarali with ragam, neraval and swaram. There is one version in Hamsadhwani also. Suryaprakash followed with the Achutadasar kriti Sadananda tandavam and appended a few rounds of swaram to it. The Sambandar Tevaram in Athana and the later one in Kedaragowla had some interesting tempo variations too. The alapana of the ragam Keeravani seamlessly gave way to the Tirumoolar Tirumanthiram Marathai maraithadu maamada yaanai Marathil maraindadu maamada yaanai leading to the kriti Innamum sandeha ppadalamo. A brief neraval on the lines Tannai arikinra tavame peridu referring to the advaita philosophy was meaningful. After another Sambandar Tevaram in Kedaragowla, the Papanasasam Sivan kriti Ennai kaatharulvadu oru bharama came pleading to Ambal for protection. Tiruvadi saranam occupied the centre space with elaborate alapana, customary neraval at aduthu vantha and swarams. After a brief tani, Suryaprakash rendered his own ragamalika in six ragams which is a fine composition with good sahithya and Sangeeta bhavam. Suryaprakash concluded the concert with the prayer to Lord Siva in Suruti for his blessings.

Within the limited slot available, Suryapraksh packed the concert with select Tevarams and ever green tamil compositions which were very much enjoyed by the discerning audience. The tevarams were rendered with amazing raga bhavam and sahithya bhavam and devotional fervour. The kritis were sung in the right kalapramanam with the devotional content in tact and never missing the array of sangatis. The accompanists also did not have enough time to display their talents. But within the available time, the raga alapanas and swara returns of H.V.Raghuram were relishing and the percussion front accompanied without interference. I got the information that the concerts will be telecast by SVBC. Let us wait.

Great review, sir. I discovered innamum sandega padalamo via a post on this forum and it has quickly turned out to be one of my favourites. I must say that I place songs with pure sangathamizh lyrics on the same exalted pedestal as songs with Sanskrit lyrics.

Suryaprakash and tamizh kritis are made for each other! As you say, he packed an awful lot in the two hours. What variety too!
kala kalavenRolithE--Or
kalakkuk kalakkiDuvAravarumE!
adilum, tamizhilenRAl, pin enna?
edilum velvAr, in kuralilumE!

Rama,
'tannai aRiginRa' onRu is no easy matter. Though transliterations vary, in this instance, a 'g' works better than a 'k', if you see what I mean...a revelation, rather than an itch...
