Re: Young talent (Must listen) - Master Narayanan - Nada Inbam, 10th December 2018, Monday, 4pm to 6pm
The young boy from Tripunitura (Kerala) presented a very impressive concert accompanied by Sri Ramya on the Violin and Nochur Nagaraj on the Mridangam.
List of songs.
• Kannaa nin- Thodi varnam- Adi (S)
• Mooladharakshetra-Mayamalavagowla –E.S. Sankaranarayana Iyer (N,S)
• Guruleka- Gowrimanohari- T (R,S)
• Adenamma- Paras- Pallavi Doraiswami Iyer
• Sree Ramyachithalankara- Jayamanohari- T
• Pankajalochana- Kalyani ST (R,N,S)
• Anathudanu- Jingala- T
• O Rangasayi- Kambodi- T (R,N,S)
• Thani
• Hastivadanaya- Navaroj- MD
The boy is below 15 years presently learning from Trivandrum G. Seethalakshmi mami- who is a direct disciple of Semmangudi, Parassala Ponnammal mami etc. Earlier he has learnt from Thamarakadu Krishnan Namboothiri. He presented a chaste classical concert for two hours with adequate sruti sudham, patanthara sudham, manodharmam, confidence and stage presence.
The thodi varnam, I have never heard before and do not know the composer. He appended a few rounds of kalpana swarams in the pallavi. The song Mooladharakshetra in Mayamalavagowla is an exclusive uruppadi of Parassala Ponnmmal – G. Seethalakshmi. I have never heard this song from any other vidwan. The boy presented the song well with neraval and swaram. The alapana of Gowrimanohari, Kalyani and Kambodi were much delectable for the authentic phrases, striking brighas and some innovative sancharams. The kritis conformed to the accepted patantharam and kalapramanam. There was enrichng vyavaharam in the swara kalpanas.
The young violinist played very well. With sweet tone and manodharmam, she embellished the concert significantly. She is the winner of this years Mudhra Cutchery competition. Hailing from Visakhapatnam, she is disciple of Sangeeta Kalanidhi Kanyakumari. Vidwan Nochur Nagaraj is from Kozhicode and a promising vidwan who played with good understanding and anticipation.
The team is sure to go places. All the best to the young vidwans and vidushi.

Narayanan rendered the kritis with dedication and confidence. Jayamanohari was clearly illustrative of its aarohana-avarohana which, if not handled carefully might resemble. Sreeranjani.
I was also amazed at the ease with which he sang the not commonly heard Anaathudanu (jingala) especially the tricky chittaswaram.
An artist to watch.

Such a wonderful concert.
Few things
1. Thodi varnam by gomathishankar of annamalai University. A very rare one.
2. Gowrimanohari....hardly anyone songs alapana these days. This was precise and classy rendition
3. Jayamanohari keeethana.. haven't heard before. O man !! No words to describe. A rare gem of thyagaeaja swami
4. Jingala . What a kalapramanam.... First time hearing such relaxed tempo. Thyarajaswami must be prowd !
5. Kambhoji and O Rangasayi...such a perfection at young age
This boy took me to srirangam 10 days before vaikunta ekadasi , just previous day in chamber concert sang ranganayakam and Raju vedala ( what a todi, what a todi)
6. Hastivadanaya... Kids of his age even wouldn't have heard navroj ! What a way to windup a concert with majestic composition on.vinayaka
This boy to be watched out for sure. His first concert in Chennai. Prayers to almighty and to paramacharya to guide him in right path and that when voice breaks, his music is not affected
Violin. Very non intrusive . Concice alapana , crisp swaras. Fantastic
Mridangam... He is from guru Karaikudi Mani sir sishya parampara. He learns form Sri Anil Kumar , father of prodigy Surya gayathri !
Watch out for risimg star. He is singing on Jan 14 in BVB ...
Again and again .... Kerala is right place for pure and chaste music. After all God's own country ...

Yes, a gifted child, singing confidently in a totally classical style, the unmistakable SSI bani. A very good concert, but he has much further to go, especially in the area of voice control. He certainly has a bright future open to him, if he seizes the moment and gets some urgently needed voice training, beyond the regular carnatic music training.
