srI short AlApana varNam - sAmi ninnE kOri. this is an example of an uruppadi that ages well and doesn't get boring
however many times one hears. the lilt, the mukthAyi and the chittai swaram, especially that 4th one
starting nI pa ma ri ga ri sa are plain awesome. In 3 speeds, 1, 1.5 and 2 till mukthAyi. From charaNam onwards
it seems he is doing a 1 + 1.5 in the same line/phrase rather than do them distinctly.

Unfortunately the audio conks out in the midst with uneven volume

So should one worry (cup only half full) that the nAdaswaram + thavil combo is giving way to nAdaswaram + v + m + g/k or be happy (cut atleast half full) that the instrument is adapting with the times for closed confines? About an year ago caught nAdaswaram + thavil in a temple mantapam, open air, no amplification, gentle breeze and the murmur, rather quite loud chatter of the folks waiting for the screen to open for dIpArAdanai & oblivious to that music. That just was a totally different experience & the way to listen to nAdaswaram.

vAraNa mukhavA thuNai varuvAi

vasanthabhairavi (quite an elaborate AlApanai) with the uncommon ramA ramaNA

??

This was a great concert to listen to. While it is nice to hear nadaswaram with violin and mridangam and ghatam, I think nadaswaram thavil is best combination.

Thanks to Parivadini!
