Great News !!!
Here is a track where he sings as well.

The mesmerising Violin bit is by Embar Kannan
a track squeezed out of a 60 minute laya special at Brahma Gana Sabha.
As a tribute to this Gentle Giant.

The snippet posted by Coolkarni is by the "HeartBeat" group - Dr. Karthik is the man behind this group along with Embar Kannan. They toured the US a couple of years ago and the concert i heard was really good; they seem to have had a very busy season (december) the last two years.
The group has violin, flute, mandolin, mridangam, ghatam, kanjira, tabla and morsing with persussion given a lot of emphasis in their performances.
They have released a CD too; the compositions i believe primarily by Karthik and Embar Kannan.

Dear brother-member, coolkarni, I have just listened to the starting bits of that recording and found the Artist who played the Mridangam did not exactly reproduced the Jati-format of the Konakkol-singer. Had he reproduced the same on the Mridangam it would have become more attractive and enthusiastic to listen and enjoy it. amsharma.

Congratulations, Mr. Karthik ! Mr. Karthik can be proud of his EARNING Ph.D. from the Madras University for his research work. In days of yore, GNB was proud to sport his B.A.(Hons) degree after his name. Similarly Dr. Karthik can rightfully sport his Ph. D. after his name to distinguidh himself from the Pseudo Drs. of "conferred Honorary Doctorates" like Dr. Kalaignar, Dr. Jesudas etc.

It is heartening to note that many of the current artists are well qualified in other academic fields also besides their chosen art forms. The list should also include one or both of the Rudrapatnam brothers. I just don't want these artists to be clubbed with those that were awarded "honorary" doctorates that SHOULD NOT be used as as prefixes, as clearly mentioned in the awards. Even our friends in these columns should refrain from using "Dr. Ramani, Dr Semmangudi, Dr. Kalaignar, Dr. MLV " etc. regardless of how much respect they deserve. It is a disrespect to those who worked for and EARNED their degrees !
