This composition captures the essence of the belief that chanting the name of a divine being (nAm japan) has the same power as chanting complex mantras to invoke them - even chanting 'ma rA' changed a thief ratnAkar into the poet-extraordinaire, vAlmIki. All the examples quoted in the kRti bear witness to this. It is also the reason why many Hindus name their children after the Gods in the pantheon - since we call out a child's name a million times in our lifetime, we will reap the rewards of that 'mantra', as attested by the story of ajAmiLa. Now, the entire purpose of this is defeated by shortening names (like nANi for nArAyaNa etc...) or using 'pet' names like Bunty or Bubli....

From a dancer/choreographer's perspective, this kRti should offer wonderful scope for sancAris.
