That was a nice article.
But I have never been able to appreciate the fact that
It is only the mystery that defines our image of Annapurna Devi and we have nothing else to fall back on.
no recordings , inspite of living such a long life..
Whats the use of talking about a 5000 year old tradition , if it can encounter such a reaction , on the way ??
(Apart from Chaurasias Story of how he became a disciple- she wanted him to Unlearn everything he had learnt till then and he did it by the only way possible- switch from being a righthanded player to left handed)
And Ofcourse I cannot relate to the lack of will for living further.
Artist or no artist , tragedy or no tragedy, I cannot understand how it adds up to the value of an artistry or a (Maihar) lineage.
Frankly I am no big "Ravisankar-Ali Akbar" fan, But I am, more pwerfully, moved by the tragedy in Vilayath Khans words , who on touching down in Calcutta -from Canada-found to his dismay that he had Lung Cancer and bemoaned the fact that there was so much more to explore , and to close it all in a matter of days.....
Here are two tracks of Annapurna Devi ,
One .Yaman with Ravisankar
Two. Solo , playing Raag Kaushiki.
