I wish it is hightime a discussion takes place on overdoing as against subtlety in bringing out finer nuances in carnatic music being melody or percussion. With the high tech equipments to equalise and amplify it is better some of our eminent performers realise the elegance and subtlety they have forgotten. It is not only the sound but the duration and many forms of onstage excesses(communication, mannerisms) that need a comment afterall carnatic music has to do a lot with visual too. The golden period of carnatic music had more grace with the limited technical support. Even some section of the audience go by the disproportionate sound / noise and excesses to vote thier favourite musician. I shall come with more anecdotes, information and suggestions later.
