I am curious to know why the final sahityam of pada varnam is skipped and not performed. Is the reason of it being too erotic? If that's the case, there are varnams, where the final sahityam is not erotic in nature at all. Is it due to time constraints?
If someone knows why the final charanam is not performed, please share your views/thoughts/opinions....
Thanks and Regards,
Raghu

Raghu - I have not come across this happening. Perhaps it was due to time constraints.

Re: Last Charanam of Pada Varnams
I believe there could be two reasons to do the following - one with respect to time and the other due to content not appropriate for the dancer. There seems to be rules associated with it. If the last charanam stands on its own then the line can be eliminated. But if the last charanam is a continuation of what exists in the previous charanam then it cannot be dropped by itself. I have noticed this also in commercial available recordings where there is a swaram for the last charanam and no sahithyam. I have seen cases when the first and the last are kept and the middle ones are dropped if the middle ones contain inappropriate language. If the first charanam has inappropriate language they have dropped the all the sahithyam. So I believe it goes something like this you can drop all the sahithyam if you want, keep the 1st and the last, drop the last. Please note the swarams are always danced to but not the sahithyam based on the rules which was described to be in the above line.
