Scope of Manodharma aspects in Music for Dance by Dr. Padma Subramaniam on 11 12 2011
The lec dem started immediately after Dr. Gowri Ramanarayan's programme with a guru sthuthi and Dr PS requested Dr GR to sing any viruththam in any raga to her choice sothat she can do abhinayam . GR sang Munnam avanudaya namam kettal [ kalki ] suitable to her manodharma . Fantastic . GR sang for 10 mts and Dr PS's performance was excellent. The mirudhangam artiste [ Nagai Sriram ] who arrived in the morning was asked to accompany in the archestra which he did without any rehearsal and other instructions. He played for a niraval with his manodharma and again PS performed for that too. She mentioned that normally she used to send signal to repeat once or twice which audience may not know. But now she performed to the artistes choice of their manodharma. Totally 60 mits of her lec dem was fully packed with enjoyable moments. She praised her team especially Kannan and Gayathri for their sincere devotion. Finally on the request of the audience she performed abhinaya of an Heart surgery to everybody's surprise. Kannan's vina was good and it was the only instrument played for this particular piece.
In total the performance was excellent. Though she has been nominated for the Natya Kala Acharya award by MA this year she would have been considered for SK. I may kindly be excused if any points are omitted or wrongly added.
