Being a Mumbaiite myself, I thought someone needs to showcase some of our local vidwans (people have done it in other forums earlier).
My own guru Shri. G. Balasubramaniam (disciple of Trichy Swaminatha Iyer), Prashant's guru Shri. N. S. Chandrasekhara Bhagavathar (disciple of the Alatthur Brothers), Shri London Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar (a very neglected but knowledgeable artiste), Shri. Ramachandran (early guru of Smt. Aruna Sairam - now resides in Chennai), Shri. Maniappan (disciple of Shri. Palghat Raghu), Smt. Alamelu Mani (mother of singer Hariharan), and Smt. Balamani (early guru of Bombay Jayashree and Shankar Mahadevan) are among the many that we could boast of.
Being a little free from the pressures of concert performances and mostly confining themselves to teaching, these vidwans have assimilated, polished, and meticulously passed on great patantaras and kritis to fortunate students like me. I hope my generation can retain and release this treasure to later generations.

I would mention Veena Vidwan C K Shankara Narayana Rao to this list. He trained under Vidwan A S Chandra Shekaraiah and Vidwan Veena Rajarao before settling down in Bombay. He founded Tarangini academy in 1950 and has trained many students. He has authored a book on Veene published in Kannada by Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy, and later published in English by his students. He was instrumental in organizing a grand 125th birth year Celebrations of Veene Seshanna in 1978.

Here is a dwi-tala Shanmukhapriya RTP by Late Tiruchi Swaminatha Iyer accompanied by LGJ and PR. This is from a concert held at Calcutta during 1980. He was in his 70's at that time

The relatively unknown Swaminatha Iyer was teaching carnatic music at the Shree Vallabh Sangeethalaya at Sion, Mumbai. He used to sing along with his brother - they were known as Tiruchi Sahodarargal. He has done a number of Jugalbandhis with Prof. Ghinde during the 80's.
