Some of our artists are unidimensional, while others are multi-faceted charismatic performers. Maybe that is why some of them are known the world over, while others find it difficult to cross guduvAnchEry (to quote needidevatai from another thread). Here are a couple of links as illustrative examples:

For performing artists to be successful, in addition to their undoubted merit (some more than others), they need something else: a spark, charisma, the ability to intoxicate - what ever + the kaTAksham of the 'adirshTadevatai' (the capricious goddess of luck)....Thus, we all understand that for every successful artist, many equally skilled, if not more, languish unrecognized, and go unsung!
There are many such examples where talent alone doesn't launch a thousand ships (oops - concert invitations!)....
My wife who is an avid fan of country Western music was musing that not all of the CWM singers can be as attractive as Faith Hill, Shania Twain or the Dixie Chicks (my favorites!)... it obviously means that the ones that are not glamorous enough do not make the 'cut'...As another example, before Celine Dion was presented to the world stage she underwent a 'glamorization' process.

So, while CM is a niche market, it remains a market, and the ability to sell oneself and one's product is an essential tool in every performers arsenal.

Dear RShankar

Most of the artists of the modern era are articulate, multifaceted and multitasking. While some of them evn uttering "mmmm" is being splashed in the headlines of THE HINDU, others are
"malai peratuffying" silently, without an iota of recognition. It is 100 times worse than the game Ganguly is playing!!!

The result, the rasikas and organisers are fooled into believing that only 4/5 good artists are there in the field, while there are about 50 great artists, both men and women.

Everyone knows you Mr.TMK, you are an excellent artist, you need not force yourself on the public through your pet daily week after week!!!!....

nIti dEvathai's scales (balance), when it comes to TMK, seem to malfunction, it seems...
No, I am not speaking on behalf of the vocalist. I am voicing the reaction of quite a few of our fellow rasikAs...
