This will become a favourite too .
Omkarnath Thakur singing at the Academy with MSG and Samtha Prasad- A Kabir Bhajan .
Halfway through , he has hardly uttered the comment - Yeh Raag ki bhasha Hai - when he notices Samtha Prasad warming up and encourages him Baja Ley Baj Ley
Samtha Prasad who once in his Tabla solo recitals goaded a fellow who was seen leaving the room , to come back .With the words - How can you . After an hour , my fingers are just warming up
Later on , in this track , Omkarnath Thakur is heard tackling a chap who is walking off or something like that - saying Chalo Chalo ..
Brilliant Huseni Kanada . And a brilliant moment in the history of HM at Chennai
Guess how this concert has survived ? Thanks to the likes of Nageswaran .
If you interested in more I can come back with the likes of Nizamuddin Khan , Kanthe Maharaj , Kermatulla Khan, Ahmed Jan Thirakwa and many others.

Thimma! that plea melody ripped my heart - wow! it is most definitely one of my favorites...Never heard a Kabir bhajan sung this way, with such intense fervor!
What were the lyrics he was singing? I picked up that it is a kabir bhajan.. sunO bhai sadhO....ehi paru ganga ....wohi paru jamuna... and then the 'bajAlE bajAlE' to the tabla...butter fingers on the tabla...
The names you mention are all new to me but please do come back with more....can't thank you enough for anything but we can always listen and take delight in the gems you provide.

Some Kabir Bhajan. That is up rshankars street
You must be knowing that he belongs to a school that depended heavily on riding piggyback on Religious content to keep H Classical Music from going astray ( Disciple of VD Paluskar ) . Was Guru to N Rajam too. Never liked getting into a Studio for recording . Would rather have those guys recording his stuff at the temples where he sang. Unlike Firoz Dastrur who never sang for AIR.
I will do anything that Nageswaran bids me to do , just for this concert alone
This clip is from a very very rare concert . Remember to ask for the main Bhimpalas of this concert , when we get a suitable occasion
And Yes watch out for the next one on Nizamuddin Khan in a very private ambience .I will bring the full panaroma on view.Glad you like it.

Kishan Maharaj, in a live London performance too long ago for to remember even the year.
I recall that he had accepted an accompanying tour on the condition of a solo concert. I don't think I had ever seen a tabla solo concert before, and I mean solo, as in one man, one set of tabla, not as in a percussion group with tabla leading. I can only remember being spellbound.

The parents of this kid, now a teenager, drove down each summer from Edmonton to San Anselmo for the duration of the classes conducted (two-three weeks) by Zakir-ji.

Thank you for this side info - very valuable in getting to know artists. Maybe this explains why, the deep fervor/bhakti in the kabir bhajan above - it shocked me a little, the way he sang it - no usual sabha manch kind of "performance" there.
Please upload more from Omkarnathji.

Dear Thimma,
You have said, "If you interested in more I can come back with the likes of Nizamuddin Khan , Kanthe Maharaj , Kermatulla Khan, Ahmed Jan Thirakwa and many others."
I very much look forward to hearing Khanthe Maharaj and Karamathullah Khan. By the way do you have the recording of Kanthe Maharaj's famous story about a lion and how he imitates the lion's roar on the tabla ?
Shivadasan
