I remember a similar song from a very old tamizh movie (from the days of oLiyum oliyum) with the same dancer, with Saroja Devi in the audience, but Sivaji as the hero - this one is from paighAm..does anyone remember that movie?

Yes, Ravi. In olden days , many music directors used to copy many songs from hindi film hit songs . Though there were very efficient mds such as KVM, Dakshinamurthy, C R Subbaraman, theyhad to dance to the tunes of producers and directors. The trend changed after mds VISWANATAHN ,RAMAMOORTHY STARTED SCORING MUSIC What wonderful songs they have given!!. eve today in the musical contests their songs are only chosen, . If I remember correct, Gemini pictures' Paigham is a remake of their tamil movie Motor Sundaram Pillai gobilalitha

That would be Irumbuthirai. Vyjayathimala, who was looking just as ravishing at Sarvani Sangeetha Sabha yesterday, is the dancer.

Thanks Suresh - Smt. Bali was the dancer in the clip from paighAm also.

My mother used to read Padmini's memoirs serialized as 'ellAm inbamayam' in 'idayam pESugiradu' - where she describes Vyjantimala as someone with 'iLamai kunrAda azhagu'...very prophetic words indeed...Not only is she still ravishing at 70+ years of age, but dancers with the clean lines and azhuttam of her yore.

Ravi, the song 'thandi thandi sawanki, captivatingly rendered by Asha Bhosle from the film Jagte raho' and the Tamil song 'Nila kaigirathu' from the film' Indra' beautifully rendered by Harini are almost similar. Both are stated to be tuned in the raaga 'Tilak khamod . If available the same can be posted from youtube. . I am rather disappointed that I am not able to post more about carnatic music performances as I have got only a nunippul meyara knowledge .
The song 'Zindagi khwab hai ' by Mukeshin the film Jagte Raho' tuned by the maestro Salil Choudry iis a very nice one .gobilalitha
