Happened to recently hear the songs of Shakunthalai...wonderful music and lyrics.. does anyone know who the music director and lyricist was ?

Well GBL , I was a little surprised and my initial enquiries did confirm that S.V.Venkataraman was indeed the father of S ve Sekar. However on deeper probing I found that this was S.V.Venkataraman the actor !

The music director S V Venkataraman is not the father of S ve Sekar. From what I heard he died in great penury. When Ellis R Dungan (director of Meera) visited India in 1994 , he expressed a desire through Randor Guy to call on S V Venkataraman.

The music director however politely sent word to Dungan not to visit him stating that having seen him in a good position in the days of yore, he (Dungan) would be disturbed to see him in the present condition in pretty bad shape. Apparently Dungan respected his wishes and refrained from embarrassing the music director with a "courtesy visit" even as he sent his respects and regards.

You are absolutely right. BTW s ve shekar's father SV Venkataraman is the actor who acts in the film roja where he is the boss of arvind swamy,there is a scene where he is admitted in the hospital.
