After almost a week I managed to write down a brief about the event
MAIDSTONE, MARCH 10, 2007
RASIKAPRIYA Dr. Shrikaanth K. Murthy
This felicitation ceremony was conducted by the carnatic group popular in cyberspace - Sangeethapriya (www.sangeethapriya.org)
The program started at around 3:30PM with an invocation, a compositon of Dr. Shrikaanth on Lord Ganesha rendered by Ranajani Sivakumar. This was followed by an introduction of Dr. Shrikaanth and his works. The award was presented by the founder of Sangeethapria, Srinivasan Rajagopalan who said that it was an honour presenting the award and appreciated Dr.Shrikaanth's services towards Carnatic music. Dr.Shrikaanth was nominated by rasikas world over touched by his service to Carnatic music. He added that this award would continue to be carried on in the years to come.
Dr. Shrikaanth also expressed that it was with great pleasure that he is accepting the title Rasikapriya. He added that it endears him to the rasikas. He said that he was honoured and touched by the token of appreciation from Srinivasan and the Rasikas.
The ceremony was followed by a composition of Dr.Shrikaanth - kamalAmbikayA kaTAkShitOham in dES rAga rendered by Sriram.
The main program of the day, a concert by Dr. Shrikaanth began with his own compositon, a varNam in punnAgavarALi, a very rare treat. He was accompanied on the violin by Jyotsna Srikanth and on the mridangam by Amuthan. The items to follow were excellent choices including tattvamariya taramA(Ritigowla - Papanasam Sivan), O pannaradO kANE (kannaDa - own composition), paralOka sAdhaname manasA ( pUrvikalyANi - Tyagaraja), nA ninna dhyAnadoLiralu (kAnaDa - Purandara Dasa), SrI vEnkaTa girISam (suraTi - Muttuswami Dikshitar), innu daya bArade (kalyANa vasanta - Purandara Dasa).
This was followed by the vote of thanks - special mention was made of Srinivasan Rajagopalan (sangeethapriya) and Ramakrishnan (rasikas). However, the surprise was yet to come. The conluding item, a rAgamAlika and a tALamalika (suLAdi) - the rAmAyaNa mangaLa rAgamAlika (SrI, dhanyAsi, vasanta, asAvEri, mOhana, saurAShTra, suraTi set to the suLAdi sapta tALas) was the conluding item of the concert and another composition of Dr. Shrikaanth that is a masterpiece.
The musical feast was followed by lovely dinner organised by Sahana and Srikaanth
Overall the program was great. The audience was charmed by Dr. Shrikaanth's music and his vidwat.

Friends here is the next song.
tattvamariya taramA - Ritigowla - Adi - Papanasam Sivan
I apologize for the audio quality which is over modulated and I do not know how to compensate. Hopefully the video may have a better audio,

thanks padmini amma
it is your grace that we have the gift of such a gem to CM. The title Rasikapriya is just a token of our expectations from DRS in the future. The credit goes to you just as we say in Tamil
InRa pozhuthum perithuvakkum than makanai
chAnRon enak kETTa thaay
( the mother feels happier than giving birth to her son when she sees him recognized as a scholar)
Thank YOU!

Dear laxmi
I will be delighted to u/l the concert one song at a time. I was hoping a Rasika feedback after each u/l. What is a Rasikapriya without priya Rasikas expressing their appreciations and views! In fact DRS has given this concert for the enjoyment of us Rasikas. While all of flock to demand from him Quiz (which is very time intensive on his part) there is very little appreciation expressed (of course the punnagavraLi is well received!) for the concert part. He has started with a nice Tamil song and I expected some comments from the Tamil Rasikas! Al least note that the padcchedams are perfect! (Note he does not sing 'madavaa raNamukanE'
In my view Jyotsna has accompanied very delightfully though the sound of the mridangam is jarring due to recording artefacts.
If you are all ready we shall move on!

Dear cmlover,
I just listened to DRS second song, tatvamariya. It is very nice. I don't think I am qualified to comment on DRS. But you are right, the tamil pronounciation is impeccable.
I have heard people sing modhaka harane

CML,
Let's go piece by piece.
This rItigowla composition is indeed a very nice one. I am hearing it for the first time. Realized it on Lord gaNESa.
DRS has sung it immpeccably.
I am always envious of people you can sing tamizh kritis (I can't with the correct pronunciation
)

while i am unsure about these, i think the following apply:
mathura => madura (although i guess both apply - du would be the tamilized form)
vanasUtaara => vanakUTAra (i think)
nitiyonbadum => nidi(y)onbadum (i think this nidi + onbadum?)
anparkkaruL => anbarkkaruL (anbarkku arUL)
bIjaasUranE => bIjAkuranE (?)
matavAraNa => mada-vAraNa
drs as usual has done a fine job!

actually suji i think since many of the phrases are stock sanskrit phrases which have little/no meaning in tamizh, a sanskritized pronounciation seems better to me better. For some words like carAcara there is no tamizh equivalent and tamilizing will mangle it beyond repair.
I think the way drs has sung it is quite ideal for this song IMO.

Unlike bhArathi Sivan's Tamil is very much sanskritized. He of course uses Tamil grammar with sanskrit words. The padachchedams are very important so as not to make nonsense. I agree herein DRS has given an impeccable performance. This verse was originally popularized by MMI. Again it is nice for DRS to have started off with the prayer to Lord Vinayaga!
Has the controversy as to the janaka raga (20 or 22(D1 vs D2) ) for rItigowLai been finally resolved?

Some of the letters within brackets are to show how they are spelt in sanskrit as also how many pronounce it. The last but one line (uNarvarum), Im not sure as lyrics are given differently in P sivan's and some websites. It says "mutiviNarvaru" which I do not understand at all.
Regards singing tamil lyrics myself, I do not have to think and worry about getting it right as I am for all practical purposes a native speaker of the language.

Just heard the kannaDA composition. Very nice. The kalpanaswarams were short and sweet- suggestive of the kannaDa scale.
Now we need the lyrics to discuss the sAhityA and then the rAga
The scale I could pull out is - 29 mEla
S R G M P M D N S
S N S D P M G M G M R S
There is an elongation on D that I noticed and may be on M
More from DRS
