Can anyone please recommend a good talameter, and also a shop from which to obtain it in Chennai? Thank you very much in advance.

This electronic mridangam claims to play 40 mridangam talas

Has anyone used it? How does it compare with a metronome?

I have the Radel talameter which I bought from Murali Music in Chennai (next to the Doraisami subway, T Nagar side). The sound is sort of annoying (electronic beeps and jalra sound), but you get used to it. The option for turning off the sound is there, and it can be programmed for any thalam at any speed.

Thank you very much sankirnam. I certainly don't want electronic beeps accompanying me when I practice! The most important thing for me is a clear visual aid of the progress of the tala cycle.
