Hi,

I am a Kuchipudi dancer and I need a song for tarangam(dancing on the plate) . So it should be fast and preferably telugu or sanskrit and on Lord Ram. I have tried many Thyagaraja songs but somehow they don't suit because the sahityas are very small.

Pls help. I have only 10 more days for rehearsal and have my semester examinations next week :( Tried listening to so many songs :(

A lot of songs by Bhadrachalam Ramdas are on Rama. A fine example is:
Emayya rAma. rAgA: kAmbhOji. k/cApu tALA.

P: Emayya rAma brahmEndrAdulaku naina nImAya teliya vashamA shrI rAma
A: kAmAri vinuta guNadhama kuvalayadaLa shyAmA nanuganna taNDri shri rAma
C1: sutuDanucu dasharathuDu hituDanucu sughrIvuDu atibaluNDanucu kapulu
kSitinAthuDanucu bhUpatulu kolicirigAni patita pAnanuDanucu mati teliyalErayiri
2: celikADanucu pANDavulu virOdhiyaTncu yanala jarAsandhAdulu
galavADani kucEluNDu nerigiri gAni jalajAkSuDani ninnu sEvimpalErayiri
3: naruDavani naruladama doravanucu yAdavulu varuDanucu gOpa satulu

Hi Lakshman....

Thanks for that song but I want it to be as fast as 'marakatha mani maya' by OVK. Adi taalam songs would be easier to set jathis.

Keeths: Here is a song I just heard for the first time yesterday. It satisfies some of your requirements, On Rama, Telugu and quite fast paced. But this may suffer the same problem that you mention with other thyagaraja songs that sahityas are small. Also, I do not have any idea what kind of laya is suitable for tarangam and so this may not fit that.

Keeths,

Have you tried 'raghuvamsa sudhambudhi candra' in kadanakutUhalam by Patnam? I have seen some tarangams to this composition. It is fast, it is in telugu, and it is on rAma (details http://sahityam.net/wiki/Raghuvamsa_sudhambudhi).

keeths,
Some more ideas:
1. If you want a lot of sahityam you could try one of the pancha ratnas like 'Jagadananda kaaraka'.
2. There is another Tyagaraja kirtana in Devagandhari 'koluvai yunnade kodanda paaNi' which is very wordy and has a lot of charanas.
3. There is also a Bhadrachala Ramadas kirtana 'Dasharatha rama' sung by Aruna Sayeeram here:

We are doing raghuvamsa sudha too but not as a tarangam. The title of the performance is "anthA rAma mayam" so there are about 8 songs we are doing :)

Jagadananda kaaraka is the first song of the performance :) I will listen to the other songs too. But cannot choreograph this time. By the way, Bhavayami raghurAmam by swathi thirunal portrays the entire 6 cantos of rAmAyanam. I just wanted to clarify if there is anything wrong in retuning the song and changing the taalam to aadhi.
