Hi
We are getting together a group of like minded persons to have a festival during this season.
probable dates are november last week to december 2nd week
We plan to include music and dance
As excellent rasikas in an even more excellent forum, could you kindly tell us what you think should/ should not , or must/ must not be done?
Is ANOTHER festival during season OK at all? What are your views?
What will make it interesting in spite of this being the 'n' th festival?
What combination of music and dance?
Seniors or Juniors or a combination?
Whether in Mylapore/ T Nagar hub or any other? Which area?
Any suggestions and ideas will be greatly appreciated and sincerely thanked
Hope you will give us good suggestions.
Regards
Raja

Why another sabha? I would suggest have a workshop of all music teachers/dance teachers and have them present info regarding about their schools, how they teach, fees, expected practices etc to kids. Motivate youngsters as small as 3 years old to sign up and learn carnatic music. We need a huge influx of young talent to keep this arts vibrant. Maybe make music compulsory in KG-12th standard school curriculam. Promote research in music. Make it a viable profession.

The big question is why?

If you want to do something different,k then everything else will follow on from the what it is you want to do.

Just to form another group presenting concerts, when there are so many already doing that, and compete for a limited number of people to sit on your seats --- I don't see the point in that.

But I wish you success, anyway!

I'd suggest you have a your festival in January after the chaos of the peak music season.

If your sabha has to make a difference and stand out in the crowd, then you can focus on a theme that stands out.

For example , you can make it jugalbandhi series or harikatha series or lecdem series or Sampradaya Divayanamam series etc etc .

Perhaps you can take 1 theme a year.

Hi all
Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate the time and trouble you take to do this. We also value your opinions. Pl. do keep responding so that we can draw something useful. Again, one important thing is to tell us what we can do not only now but also during the monthly programmes which we hope to conduct, to make us relevant.
@ manikand28 - good suggestion. will certainly have something in that direction.
@ nick H - Thanks for your good wishes. We have thought about it; I will get back to 'what' we intend doing, after I see some more responses in this forum; but do tell us what you think will make a difference.
@ mohan - We thought that after the season, there are many who have 'fatigue' and problem of indigestion... that's why.. but we'll consider.
@ sunayanaa - thanks for the theme idea. we have something like that on the anvil.. could you give us some more on that theme suggestion?
Thanks again to all; pl. try to send us your feedback. They will be very useful.
Regards
Raja

Here's something I'd personally like to see --- more chamber concerts.

I have always thought that the music is best experienced in a more intimate situation than a hall. it is a different experience of the musicians, and the audiences, I think, tend to be better behaved.

Perhaps, though, this is already there, and when I say 'see' i should say 'get invited to'. By their nature they tend to be private affairs and, when held in the home, one would maybe not want to invite all and sundry of the public.

Yes, there are the concerts that Cool and Co organise, and present on this site, and one or two others, so no, it is not a new suggestion --- but anyway...

Oh yes, the chamber concert a unique appeal - no doubt...other than Coolji's concerts, there is also the excellent Musiri Chamber concert series. For others though, you need to be networked in the Mylapore circles, the key to which has always eluded me...I am sure Coolji can give you tips on how to break in!

But there is something to be said for the electricity of concerts in an auditorium - especially during the season...for me, the buzz around the Academy's lobby in December can never be matched...

Hello Raja123,
If your Sabha has to be different , then take this "Music festival" to Schools. Conduct one program(Concert/Dance/Lec Dems/PPT Presentations) in each and every School may be once a month and once you have established yourselves you can make this an yearly feature .
Adults are already attending the concerts. Its the School children who need a lot of exposure to music. Children /Parents need to know that just attending Music/Dance classes is not enough for the kids. They also need to attend concerts .
You can inspire/develop more young Rasikas for the future.
