Dear friends
It was the most beautiful evening i saw in a long time. The way the evening went past brought tears of joy to my eyes as an old time resident of Mysore state. Dr Jayanthi Kuamresh rightly said that it was like going on a trip to the past on the history of Mysore and reliving the times. The Alliance has a beautiful auditorium which was tastefully done up for a royal ambience. The presence of many members of the Mysore Royal family, like Smt Kamakshi Devi and Smt Indirakshi Devi, daughters of the late JC wudeyar, made it so special. I had the honor of greeting them and remembering old times. There was a lovely film that mr Vikram screened that traced the entire history of wudeyar family. What followed was his talk which was very touching and moving. It gave a sense of pride for many of us abt the achievements of the old Mysore state, somehoing we have forgotten over the years. A large part of his talk was also abt music in Mysore and more so the contributions of JCW, his kritis and their themes. i went after the programme and heartily congratulated and blesed this young and talented gentleman for his yeoman service to the state of karnataka. The music that followd his talk was also outstanding. Dr Jayanthi accompanied by Vid Arjun Kumar and Vid Giridhar Udupa recreated the ambience of mysore court in a way. It was appropriate that the International Music and Art Society chose a Veena concert as Mysore was always a seat of Veena playing.
beginning with a kriti on ganesha in raga valaji by HArikeshanallur Muthaiah bhagavathar she played the evergreen Chintayami Jagadamabaam of the Maharaja in Hindola. The main piece of the day was Dharmavathi. A delighftul raga alapana and the tanas for which msyore bani was famous for followed by BHajana seya rada of Mysore Vasudevacharya. a volley of swaras in ragamalikas followed. I couldnt catch all of them and if someone who attended it is on the forum , please let me know which ragas she used. the tani was also nice and appropriate. The evening ended with a piece in Behag which she said was a popular raga for mysore composers.
I wish all the people involved in this event the very best, espeically Mr Vikram, Dr Jayanthi and her accompanists and hope there are more such occasions to go on a joureney into the past.

Melakarta,
Missed the event, being miles away. A one of a kind event bringing back to us the times of the musical royal personage and his ancestors--with their descendants in attendance too.
Once again, kudos to the young man Vikram Sampath for his work. We discussed it at length on the forum some time ago!

Dear Arasi and rshankar,
Thanks for the compliments! Makes even a novice like me feel like a great reviewer!:) i just wrote, fresh from the nice experience of the evening and i am so glad you people liked it. I was apprehensive as i dont know how to write scholarly reviews like many ppl on this forum. Wish smone else from forum had visited, we would have had better perspectives on both the thought-provoking and inspiring talk of Mr Vikram and also the superb Veena concert of Dr Jayanthi. (of course also wat all ragas she used in her ragamalika swaras....i cud catch only shivaranjani..!!:) )
