As the discussion about the origin of kaishiki and kAkali is going on in the forum, I found a real treasure :)

I got the link to an e-copy of Matanga's Brihaddeshi just now, and could not wait to share this with other rasikas.

Thanks to Sunil Jayaprakash, an active volunteer in the Purandara Dasa Wiki Project here on rasikas.org

Book link : http://rapidshare.com/files/95571483/br ... i.zip.html
Published by : Trivandrum Sanskrit Series
Published in : 1928
Editor : K Sambashiva Shastri

On the Rapidshare link, it is available in a set of 7 pdf files.

You can also access it here from the CDAC Noida site http://www.dli.cdacnoida.in/DL.aspx?BookID=14112
( However, don't like the reading interface here, and like the PDFs much better)

The book is in Samskrta, but with people like CML and Vidya around, we don't have to worry much :) about that.

Thanks Ramakriya!
This is a very valuable resource. If it had been also in romanscript it would be nice since then it would be searchable !

That could be a project for willing Rasikas!

I think collectively we can do it better :) :) :) as a resource to music lovers, who don't read dEvanAgari.

Ramakriya,
Thanks. But when there is already a published version, not out of print, and that too with a translation by someone as erudite as Premlata Sharma it's best to stay away from it and buy the book instead. :)

Vidya

I am not suggesting a translation :) I made the suggestion of transcription, based on CMLs comment for searchable content. That's all.

The translation by Prem Lata Sharma is available at the following link:
