Thanks Mohan for the pointer. TED Talks are indeed interesting as well as illuminating.
As Mr.Zander rightly pointed out, everyone has an ear for music. Exposure, to a large extent, determines what genre of music one becomes a rasika of.
Also his opening remarks on how one goes from learning discrete notes to finally "getting" the essence of the whole phrase is so apt and applies to any kind of music.
