I had not visited the during the weekend & things are on fire when i checked now. Unfortunately I ( & most likely the other not so regualr members) am not able to get a clear picture of what has happend over the weekend. Can Srkris move all the related postings to a single thread & also post message as what is going on. From the few postings of Vocalist i read , he seems to cautioning against copy right viloations which we are all aware & quite conscious about. But why people who are normally very cool are so worked up.

Vocalist, that is one of the most disingenuous statements one can make about the people in this forum and you know it. That makes me angry, till now it has been only distress. I will stop with that before I say anything I will regret later.I believe people are in disagreement with the simple concept of not uploading commercial recordings

I don't think that anybody in this forum wantonly or knowingly uploads commercial recordings. In fact there are many examples where people have specifically refused to upload recordings that are commercial. I feel that you are over reacting to a few instances where a commercial recording has been uploaded, which have been withdrawn immediately either by the uploaded or the admin on realising the mistake. I think we should continue to forum in the same vein may be taking a little extra care about commercial recordings.
You have not specifically answered the query about who gave the performers the right to commercially exploit the compositions of the trinity & others. Your argument that your guru gave you the right doesn't cut ice. Who gave him the right. You can't sell something over which you don't have a title. Try to sell a recording which has no songs but only raga.
I DON'T THINK THAT SRI.THYAGARAJA GAVE ANYONE THE RIGHT TO MAKE MONEY OUT OF "NITHISALA SUGAMA".
Having raised the issue I expect you to clearly spell out your stand on this.

Dear Vocalist
I am sorry for putting on my hat and inviting you to my couch! In fact I may have provoked you to explode even at the outset. Let us put all that behind. All that you wanted was the deletion of Sivaraman's u/l. We all agree that should go and it is gone! If you don't have any other complaints shall we restore the rest and continue with our business. In case you or others find there are some other odd commercial ones we will all join and have them deleted promptly. There is certainly no need for all this ruckus if you agree and is willing to be a constructive member of this Forum. Let us shake and forget the unhappy events. Do please respond!

VOCALIST -Raj-however, no one is sure of any such composer making such a verbal agreement (to my limited knowledge). The question of fairness pops up in this regard. To complicate matters, it's points raised like this that ambiguity basically surrounds everything (including singing compositions for commercial purposes in a concert or album) that technically we are doing so many illegal activities -even though we (including I) intend on learning from them-not using them for commercial purposes. Understandably, the confusion has now gone very far. From my intention of just articulating that a little extra care taken about commercial recordings regardless (where i used the word careless-ness and wreckless as antonyms to emphasise the point in the Revati thread)-it has grown out of proportions that I did not anticipate such a result. I will find out from the lawyer I am referring to and all I can do is hope that nothing more negative turns out.
You admit that you are not sure that any composer make a verbal agreement.
How does any one take that on face value.
What if somebody wakes up tomorrow saying that till date - severe infringement in respect of copyrights for all compositions composed by Tyagaraja has been violated by all the artistes who have sung them till date - what is going to be your statement. Think about it not once or twice but a hundred times.
Well, as far as I am concerned, I promise not to put up any more links directly for downloading either by you (a self terms policeman) or by anyone else but only to those select few genuine rasikas who wish to receive them at their e-mail addresses.
I am sure this will bring an end to all the unnecessary discussions that is currently happening here.

Sorry for butting in now, but I really have no idea, Vocalist, how you extrapolate this:
"Raj-there are a nice majority who don't wanting or knowingly upload commercial recordings,"
from whatever limited experience you've had on this forum. It is clear from this statement that you don't know your facts from a hole in the ground.

rajumds-I don't think you'd have got a chance to read my earlier post...but that doesn't matter. I appreciate the time you took to try understand the situation-and your patience, civility etc. were really admirable. I hope I will have the opportunity of keeping in touch with you via email, or at least have the pleasure to discuss aspects of CM with you in the forum while possible.
cmlover-of course it can be a bygone. I know it was your automatic instinct (having worked for so long in the field). There are many facets of knowledge you, and others understand and appreciate in CM, and it's generally quite nice to read through. I do hope to discuss elements with you-and I might get in touch with you occasionally regarding CM. I do regret a little letting you be the first one to be under the 'bashing' knowing that you do generally put on a nice front and a keen want to learn-yet I guess you also might know well enough now not to always take things so lightly-especially on the sensitive issues. Look forward to talking to you later.
