I am very humble in the face of a real musician.
Any support percussionist must be able to follow the mridangist, as well as produce appropriate tone and sound for the song. He must know the compositions and lessons of different schools and different vidwans --- or he must have the mental aptitude to learn on the spot. In reality, I guess both are needed.
I'm very sad that he has such a wish to teach his art but no students are coming to learn. i wish that more youngsters (or their families?) would see this instrument as worthwhile.

Thanks for the very interesting story of Srirangam Kannan. I have heard him play a few times and it is good to know where it all comes from. He is dedicated indeed. Hope the article encourages a few youngsters to learn from him.
I like your expression 'our morsing bhAgavatar' for Nick. Haven't heard him yet. As for you, we miss your one of a kind reviews. What has happened to the old Chennai bunch of reviewers? We have a mere trickle from you fellers--thank you Bharath. Understand that you are a busy lot. Yet, a few concerts to enjoy and to review (for our benefit) is not a bad thing!
