Thanks. I missed that. I had translated this for a local teacher a few years ago, and I did not realize I had saved it....I think I will post it because my take is a bit different and I want some feed back on it.

A: vaDakayilaiyil munnAl mAmunikkaruL sheidapaDi tavarAmal
tillaippadiyil vandu tai mAdattil guru pUshattil pagal nErattil
Without failing/breaking his word (tavaRAmal), He kept the promise he made as he blessed (aruL Seida) the great (mA) sage (muni)[1] one day (nAL) in the past (mun), in mount kailAS (vaDa – in the north, kaiyilayil), and appeared (vandu) in the city (patiyil) of cidambaram (tillai) on the auspicious day of guru pUSam (pUSattil) in the month (mAdattil) of tai (the 10th month in the tamizh calendar)[2] during day (pagal) time (nErattil), and danced (naTanam AdinAr) the Ananda tANDavam in an extremely (vegu) accomplished (nAgarIkamAgavE) manner in the golden (kanaka) hall (sabhayil) of the temple in cidambaram to the SorkaTTU (as indicated in the SorkaTTu/svara passages).

As the golden-hued one (Siva – ponnADavan)[3] celebrates (koNDADa) by joyously/joyfully dancing (naTamADa) to the accompaniment of (adilE) the sounds (giDu giDu enru) from his anklets spreading in all the eight (ashTa) directions (diSaiyil), the head (talai) of the dwarf (SEDan)[4] shaking/trembling (naDunga), the quaking (adira) of the universe (ANDam), the spilling (Sidara) of a small (tuLi) amount of water from the ganges (gangai), the to-and-fro movement (ADa) of his locks (SaDai), the swaying (ADa) of the hoods (paDam) of the snakes (aravu) on his body, and the loving (iSTamudanE) vocals (pADa) of vishNu (gOpAlakrishNan)[5], He is secure in the knowledge that He had granted (tandOm enru) his devotees (that have had the fortune to observe this sight) the final/ultimate states of bliss (padavigaL)[6].

[1] The 'mAmuni' in question is AdisESa who wanted to witness the Ananda tANDavam of his Lord and master, and was asked by Siva to incarnate as the muni/sage, patanjali – and wait for him in tillai/cidambaram with another saint, pulipAda/vyAghrapAda. Siva promised to appear before them at the opportune moment and dance for them. And, he kept his promise on the day of guru pUSam in the month of tai.
[2] The Tamizh calendar is a solar calendar, and the month of 'tai' usually extends from Jan 14/15 to Feb 12/13 of the Gregroian calendar – and yes, a month can have 32 days in the tamizh calendar!
[3] Siva is the golden hued one – ponnAr mEniyan.
[4] The dwarf is muyalakan, who represents ignorance – the symbolism is that as the Lord dances on this evil, malevolent dwarf's back, he destroys ignorance.
[5] The composer's mudra.
[6] I think refers to the 4 states of bliss – sAlOkam, samIpam etc. Am I correct, and if so, can anyone explain this? If I am wrong, please correct me.
