Dear All,

As part of our "Pilgrimage with Dikshitar" endeavour, a small group of us will be rendering select Dikshitar compositions at the Tiruvateeswarar Temple in Jambazaar, Chennai, on May 15, 2008, between 6 and 6:15 PM. The list will include the kriti Tiruvateeswaram Namami in Gamakakriya, composed on the deity residing in this temple.

Devotees are welcome and requested to contribute liberally to the temple.

Regards,
Jeyaraaj and Jaysri

Sangeethapriya MD downloads states this kriti is attributed to Adipuriswarar-Thiruvertiyur. The Thirukoil varalaru issued by the temple has published the text and meaning of this kriti in Gamakakriya -mentions about god & goddess (Thiruvetiswarar&Shenbagavalli)of this shetram.
It is so nice of Vainika couple Jayashee&Jayaraj to have created the awareness about the temple( in existence from 7 th century)by organising the group singing of MD kritis today evening.
* Goddess Lakshmi had prayed for the Lord in order to marry Perumal.
*Arjuna has hit on the head of lingam (scar is still there on the head)for getting Pasupa astram-Partha lingam is another name attributed to the Lord-according to U.V.Swaminatha Iyer-Mahamahopadhyaya-Tamil Thatha.
*Both lingam&Goddess are swayambu-come on their own.
*Being funded by/from Navab times and kattalai is still kept up by the descentants.standing monument upholding Hindu-Muslim unity.
*This is considered to be a Parihara sthalam-Ragu/Kethu.One can observe in the roof of Eshwarar sanctum the engraving of Ragu &Ketu.
*wading through the traffic in the busy Triplicane with mutton stalls all around if once you enter the temple area you feel absolutely being in a typical village atmosphere. It is really a city luxury on a busy working day for me although myself&my wife arrived late .
*Nice prasadam-Kesari &sundal were served and the participants around 10-12 in number disbursed after posing for photo in front of the temple. Many more such endeavour to come! JJ!! may their tribe increase.MY BLESSINGS!!!

Residents of Chennai hardly appreciate the fact that it is only Muthuswami Dikshitar who sang in praise of deities enshrined in city temples. Tiruvateeswaram Namami (Gamakakriya) has been sung in praise of Champakavalli Amman, Udanurai Arulmigu Tiruvateeswarar of Tiruvateeswaranpettai (Jaam Bazaar).

I wonder if there any other Dikshitar (ie Muthusvami) kRtis that employs two verbs in the Pallavi line other than the repetition type of bhajEham bhajE, ava ava etc

Thanks , May be this composition with the two verbs stood out because it was such a short pallavi line. .
If and when you get to the Parthasarathy temple I hope you people include Subbarama Dikshitar's lovely YadukulaKambhoji composition. The title reads Pilgrimage with Dikshitar so it should still work..

I think 'BrhannAyaki' in AndhaLi is one such.

Thanks! Very nice picture.

Looking at the name on the shrine in the picture in tamizh, it reads as 'tiruvETTISvarar' temple. Sri Dikshitar in his composition (thanks to Sri PPN and Vidya for the lyrics) refers to it as 'तिरुवटीश्वरं' (tiruvaTISvaram).

Which one is correct?
