Dear friends: I just got back form my two week holiday and was surprised to see so many wonderful and happy things that have happened in this short time.
I wish to sincerely thank all of you for all your congratulatory messages and good wishes on my being the recipient of the second Sangeethapriya award.
Most of you probably did not know that this whole project of collecting information about songs got started for selfish reasons. I was trying to find out for myself who the composers were for some of the songs I had in my reel to reel tape collection and before I knew it people started requesting me for information. Thus began the Alphabetical Index in the 80s. I had no computer and all the information was handwritten. Later, the lyrics project started followed by notation requests and now all three are ongoing projects.
I am very grateful to many of you who have helped me with the proper wording of lyrics and providing me with the correct information on many songs. It is sometimes difficult to be quite sure about the composer of a particular song since authentic information is hard to find, especially when I am so far away from the possible sources.
I would also like to thank all of you who have sent me books for my library collection. Every bit has helped.
Sharing knowledge of CM gives me immense joy and pleasure and I will try to continue with what I am doing as long as I can.
My special thanks to ramakriya for his blog and kind words, and to cmlover for honouring me with a special song.
Thanks again friends for everything.

I would like to know about the number of members who may be interested in joining us for this event, in order to decide the above. And finalise the details.

Congratulations! We will be with you in spirit. Could you field the following question on my behalf to Sri Lakshman ?
Dear Lakshman! Would you be willing to create a CM archive of all the materials that you have collected over the years ? If yes what sort of assistance do you require from the Rasikas-at-large ?

CML:
You need not have asked this question through Coolkarni. I would have answered you directly.
Both the Index and the lyrics are already on the computer and can readily be accessed. I also have about 1000 odd scanned pages of notations.
I do have a library of about 600 books which I would very much like to digitally archive since some of the pages are yellowing.
As for the audio tapes, I still have to find the time to convert some 400 reel to reel tapes (both HM & CM) into digital format.
I would gratefully welcome any assitance in these. Thanks.

Thanks Lakshman
Your krit index as well as lyrics are well known and they require some updating (I have only the CDs, but would love an online site hosting it! Perhaps we can request srkris to make available a site in wiki where they can be updated with input from our Rasikas. )
The reel-to-reel has to be converted by those who hold theold behemoths and are willing to invest some time. They should also be tagged. We can place a general request at this Forum for volunteers. I assume there are no copyrights issues!

Here is the report in sangeethapriya site by Pas S Pashupathy
What a better way to honour our dear Lakshman than in the presence of our past President Abdul Kalam who himself is a great CM enthusiast.
Our Forum should indeed be proud of our Rasikapriya gems both DRS and Lashman Ragde!
I am sorry I forgot to post this.Bharathi Kala Manram, Toronto, Canada
www.manram.org
celebrated its 36th Annual
Thyagaraja Festival in a grand scale yesterday ( April 19th, 2008).
The chief guest was Hon. Dr. Abdul Kalam, who shared his love for
carnatic music and science with all of us . . mostly with the youth
who were singing ..in an intereactive session.
In the evening function, it was a pleasant surprise to some of us
(members of this group) when Sri Srinivasan was invited on stage!
He introduced himself, our group, and then summarised Sri Lakshman
Ragde's contributions and then presented the Annual Rasikapriya Award
to Lakshman . Lakshman accepted the award with great humility.
Thanks, Srinivasan , for coming all the way from Boston and
honouring Sri Lakshman Ragde amidst all of us Rasikas at Toronto.
I hope Srinivasan will share his impressions about the Thyagaraja
Festival and related events here at Toronto.
Congratulations once again to Lakshman ! . . and thanks to Srinivasan !

Congratulations to Sri Lakshman. His dedication and also willingness to learn about new Sahithyams(which is very rare) is amazing. I have known him for more than 10 years now and have been following his
contributions and I have also benefitted several times from his responses. Thank you very much.

VKR, thanks for posting the wonderful song by cmlover. It describes everything that Shri Lakshman has contributed in this forum;I have been here only for a shortwhile but in this short time I have seen the readiness and speed with which he posts the lyrics of the songs.I used to wonder if he is a walking encyclopedia of music. We, the forumites are indeed blessed to be associated with such people.
There are many more such knowledgeable people in the forum.
'EndarOmahAnubhAvulu andariki vandanamu'
In tamil there is a saying 'pUvOdu serndan nArum maNamperum'
I consider myself as the 'nAr(thread).
Thanks once again.

As lakshmaNA walked the path with rAmA
Our Lakshman walks with sAhityA
helping rasikAs with such daYA
With the speed of Sri AnjanEyA!
Some come requesting, others demanding
Some for one, others for a dozen sometimes
Like bharatA his devotion flags not--a treasure,
whose treasure trove is for all to share...
