This is something that involved Sri MV...can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks.

PS: Meena: I did google, and all I got sounded like garbage!
What on earth is the Sangraham controversy?

I think I know what it is. After googling as you did and seeing the connection with Patnam, it came back to me. I guess this is to do with the intense rivalry between Ramaswamy Sivan and Patnam Subrahmanya Iyer. They appear to have been good friends initially. I guess the enmity intensified after Maha`s death which depressed Ramaswamy Sivan. MV describes in his book how Maha/his brother banged the door on MV`s face when MV first went to Tiruvaiyaru and mistakenly knocked Maha`s door thinking it was patnam`s house. He also reports surreptiously attending on eof Maha`s concerts and being utterly impressed. Anyway, I am digressing.
Owing to the rivalry, there followed a series of sangraham?, maNDanam, pratimaNDAnam, khaNDanam and muNDanam (parts of book names) wherein basically each of the 2 great vidwans was mudslinging at the other. MV, being Patnam`s disciple stood by him and helped him write and name these books. It appears that Ramaswamy Sivan regretted all this unnecessary imbroglio later. Thankfully the books do not appear to be available. It is nough for us to know the beautiful side of people. There is nothing to be gained from the ugly side of these people.
A link which gives some details

Interesting story. DRS, as you wrote, there is no point in focussing on the ugly side of these greats. For me, this feeds my current appetite for historical facts and anecdotes of the times of the trinity and a few centuries before. Not quite what I am looking for, but if books had been written about some silly inter-personal fights a few decades after the trinity's time, I am encouraged, with a stretch of faith, that there is some hard fact material should be available about the time and places around that area.
I have heard about that book of MV. Is there an English ( or tamil ) translation available?
