While I wish all the best and speedy recovery, I must tell you there is nothing to worry after by-pas surgery. I had it in 1999 february
and 3 of my brothers had this operation already. It is only necessary to have this surgery on time, under good surgeon/hospital & then follow their guidance reg. rest, exercises and food. I had it in Apollo, by Surgeon Shri Vijay Shankar, who is a fine person too.

Dear friends,
I just received communication from Shri Ramaraj's son, Prem, that Ramaraj-sir is recovering very well. He is still in hospital, but is expected to come back home in another 2-3 days.
Prem also wanted me to convey this message to rasikas on this forum:
[quote]I would like to thank all the members who have more than adequately responded to the request made by me through Jayaram.
I have passed on your wishes to my Dad and he is recovering well.
I also played the song rendered by MNSriram which according to my father "He has once again proved that our Carnatic music rendered with divine fervour and dedication can prove to have a resuscitating effect.â€

I am very happy to report that Shri Ramaraj is back at home and recovering well. I spoke to him today. His voice sounded a bit feeble, but that is to be expected considering what he has just gone through. He is getting lots of rest, and is undergoing post-operative care. I conveyed to him all your best wishes, and he felt so happy.
He specifically mentioned that he keeps listening to MNSriram's rendition of his kriti, and that boosts his spirits. Sriram, if possible can you please sing another couple of his kritis and upload?

Thanks Jayaram
that is vey good news. We should let him have complete rest before asking him back into the Forum. I second your idea of requesting MNS to try and render some more of his Kritis. MNS has a golden voice and it will be a treat for all of us.
Keep us posted as and when you get more information on Ramraj's health and progress.

Perhaps it is not out of place to mention here this now as couple of months have passed and the patient has fully recovered and back to full action.....I am talking about my brother Easwaran....recently he went down with 90% of his arteries blocked.....doctors did angina, stents etc etc and he was in bed for a good 3 months. With good diet, exercise and some good care by the near and dear ( including the very strict manni (sister in law)) he is back on his two feet, back to full swing of katcheries and even as I write this, is in Cleveland for the aaradhana. This place will not be sufficient to mention the names of the artists who stood by his side and supporting him to the hilt not to mention the incredible list of rasikas and admirers.
Why am I writing his now ? Once Shri Ramraj observes a regimented life for a couple of months, with all of us showing our love and affection for him and constantly praying for his good health, I am absolutely sure he will bounce back and with us in no time. So let us encourage him more and more.
Best wishes to him and his family.

I understand the feelings of all those fans and friends of Rajram. For information of all concerned, singing music is a great therapy for the heart of a person who just had surgery. I am one of them who had open heart surgery 20 months ago and was 90% normal within two months because of therapy to the heart by singing and taking 8 or 9 medicines on a daily basis. I hope Rajram will continue to take his medicines and do exercise as suggested by the doctor on a regular basis. Good luck

I was fortunate to be of some help in the post treatment phase.
Responding to Sam's anxious mails , I met Eswaran Sir, for the first time in my life and saw ,firsthand, how a musician suffers when he is unable to practise his art.
I can understand Ramaraj's condition fully and Pray to God that he recovers ,in the shortest possible time.
It was a fine phase for me when I got to know the artist very personally- though quite weak , he was exhorting me - get me as much of music with Pazhani Subr Pillay, I want to keep listening so badly...-
And that was what led to his accompanying Bangalore Sankar in our last concert for 2007.
Irrepressible .That is the only way one can describe these artists.Ailments can keep the lid on for short durations. But they bounce back .
The last occasion I met him at his home, he was busy preparing the Mridangam for an evening concert -scraping with some sharp tools delicately and a hundred other small details- he had chosen one of the disciples in attendance on that day, to accompany him.Looking at the other one who missed out , he said ...
Hmmm ... You will be the one for the next concert , I promise.
Now dont look so crestfallen.I know the exact spot on Marina beach where you are going to stand and ogle at girls today evening....

Sam, this is shocking indeed..even as recently as the music season there was absolutely no indication of such problems (at least not from his playing). It is quite startling how you start to take things for granted and suddenly get jolted out of your comfort by news like this...anyway, at least you are sharing the news at a time when the worst is behind us.
Please convey my regards for a speedy recovery and that we all look forward to his imposing presence on the concert stage...

Sam, I am so shocked to hear of your brother's illness --- and so relieved to know that it is in the past.
Especially since the Bangalore Sankar programme I have had a strong feeling for his playing.
Kool, thank you for the benefir of your reflections, and, of course, for setting up the Bangalore Sankar concert.

An update on Shri Ramaraj:
I spoke to him today for almost half an hour. He sounded much better, and told me he has started walking a bit every day as per doctor's instructions. He even sang for me a recent composition of his that he worked on while at hospital - a kriti on Guruvayoorappan in Saramati. It sounded so wonderful, with the usual swarakasharas that are his hallmark. It's in Tamil, and in the charanam he says how appan gave him a second life...so touching.
He repeated his request for MN Sriram to sing some more of his kritis if possible. He mentioned how he found Sriram's voice so healing, and I agree. There's a certain divinity in his voice that adds a wonderful dimension to his singing. I have requested Sriram to kindly oblige.
I did ask Shri Ramaraj to stay away from the computer for some more time, until he has fully recovered. (Also made the request to Padma mami.) But he is so anxious to get back on here, so who knows...

Dear friends,
I had a long chat with Shri Ramaraj today. He sounded much healthier and in good spirits. He sang one of his kritis to me over the phone, and his voice was in fine mettle. He is still not ready to get back to the forum, so he sends his best wishes to all.
By the way, I plan to be in Madras during the Dec season, so if anyone here is interested, we can meet up with him. I am sure he would love spending time with rasikas.
Jayaram
