Speaking of the child, yes, very impressive! It is natural that she wanted to be spared the chore of responding to something she knew so well and had to repeat the answers while she had other fun things to do--as a curious child. Our learned professional psychologists on the forum could explain how exhibiting one's quick grasp of things time and again is not pleasing to the child--that too to an audience. It would be a treat to see a child reacting to a discovery in its own natural surroundings.
Recognition of rAgAs, however impressive, does not mean that the child is going to bloom into a great musician. Of course, with such a potential, the child can be guided into learning and loving music.
Expert opinion on this please...

I couldn't see the video on youtube; It says 'youtube is banned'- but from what other forumites describe, I feel she must be a child prodigy . I remember how so many years age, a young child -barely 3 or 4- was on the stage of Krishna Gana Sabha and astonished us by recognising so many ragas and at the end of each raga asked for a 'seedai'-it was Gokulashtami time! He is none other than the Chitraveena maestro Shri Ravikiran!-History repeats itself! May God bless the child!

At the outset, I would like to say that I believe Srinidhi is an extremely gifted child. The minute I saw this video I immediately posted it to my own profile on facebook so that the world could appreciate her talent. However, I would like to apologize for my rather unsavory comments about the violinist in this video. It was certainly unwarranted, and if I could delete or retract the comments, I would, but I cannot unfortunately. I posted this from my youtube account "ashwinrohin" -- unfortunately I may have inadvertently implicated my brother in this as well. However I didn't feel the need for anonymity as I did find the violin's playing somewhat strange.
My reason for saying this was merely to highlight how truly gifted the child was, since she was able to identify the raga despite some ambiguity in his playing -- had I known it was her own father on the violin I would have thought twice about posting a message like this. It is also possible he was trying to test her and therefore played the phrases this way on purpose.
I'm sure that as her father he would have played a major role in fostering her talents -- it takes good parenting to raise talented children. I would like to sincerely apologize for this. Hope the forum members will accept and not let this affect their opinion of me or my musicianship.
Best regards,
Rohin

Amazing kid and to be honest I guessed one wrong, when a second later she came up with the right answer! :: blush :: Hope and pray that she continues!! The way she gave Bombay Jayashree[?] the answers is mega-quick time was sweet.
I didn't notice the comment on the violinist before though I did it find his playing a bit ambiguous. But after Rohin's explanation that he might have done it on purpose makes sense now.
